Xinjiang Uyghur Medical College

Xinjiang Uyghur Medical College is a public full-time general medical college located in Hotan City, Hotan Prefecture, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.


   The school was established with the approval of the People’s Government of the Autonomous Region in September 1984. It began to enroll students in 1987 and was officially filed by the Ministry of Education (formerly the State Education Commission) in 1989. In October 2009, it successfully passed the evaluation of the talent training level of the Ministry of Education.


For more than 30 years, the school has been adhering to the school motto of “learning, excellence, patriotism and helping the people”, always adhere to the socialist direction of running a school, take the fundamental task of establishing morality and fostering people as the fundamental task, and take the party and the people’s satisfaction with the education of medical colleges as a goal. The starting point and end point are to integrate the concept of “who to train, for whom, and how to train” throughout the whole process of education and teaching, and educate and guide students to contribute to the medical and health industry in Nanjiang. Rooted in Hetian, facing southern Xinjiang, serving the people of all ethnic groups in Xinjiang, and training tens of thousands of outstanding grassroots medical talents of all ethnic groups, in order to protect the lives and health of the people of all ethnic groups in southern Xinjiang, and contribute to social stability, border consolidation, economic development, and cultural development in southern Xinjiang. Prosperity, talent training, scientific research, medical services, and people's livelihood and welfare have made positive contributions.


   The school occupies a total area of 2762 acres, including 70 acres for the main campus, 1280 acres for the medicinal base, 30 acres for the affiliated hospital, and 1382 acres for the new campus (including 164 acres for the directly affiliated pharmaceutical factory). There are 4 departments under the school, with 7 majors including nursing, medical laboratory technology, rehabilitation treatment technology, midwifery, and medical imaging technology. The school has 19 laboratories, 3 affiliated hospitals, 1 affiliated pharmaceutical factory, and 36 practice hospitals and 5 practice pharmaceutical factories in the off-campus practice training field.


   There are 4,428 students in the school, with students from 15 ethnic groups including Han, Uygur, Hui, Kirgiz, Mongolia, Miao, Tajik, Tujia, Uzbek, Yi, Zhuang, Tibetan, Dongxiang, Kazakh and Gelao from all provinces and cities across the country. The composition of the source of students is that 65% of the students are from southern Xinjiang, and 35% are from eastern Xinjiang, northern Xinjiang and some inland provinces.


   There are 267 faculty members, 169 full-time teachers, 36 with senior and deputy senior titles, 51 with intermediate titles, 82 with junior titles, and 33 with long-term appointments; 47 with postgraduate or higher education, and 148 with bachelor's degree.


The school discipline and professional construction and scientific research closely focus on the needs of the economic and social development of southern Xinjiang, adjust and optimize the structure of disciplines, deepen the reform of education and teaching, improve the characteristic discipline system of southern Xinjiang, improve the talent training mechanism, and realize the docking of talent training with the needs of southern Xinjiang and speed up The establishment of medical schools with characteristics of southern Xinjiang will continuously train more qualified socialist builders and reliable successors for the development of southern Xinjiang.
