Xinjiang Institute of Engineering is the only public engineering undergraduate college in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. The school is located in the beautiful city of Urumqi. Founded in 1958, the school was originally the Xinjiang Coal Mine School. In 1994, it was renamed Xinjiang Industrial Technical College. In March 2012, it was upgraded to Xinjiang Institute of Engineering with the approval of the Ministry of Education.
Over the past 60 years, the school has always been adhering to the school motto of “unification of knowledge and practice, the pursuit of excellence” and the spirit of “mining spirit” of “hard work, selfless dedication, seeking truth and being pragmatic, and bearing weight for the future”. The school covers a total area of 2032 acres and has four campuses. The main campus is located on Kechuang Road, Urumqi Economic and Technological Development Zone. There are also Nanchang Road Campus, Tianjin Road Campus and Beijing Road Campus. The school currently has 13 secondary colleges and 1 teaching department. The school has 19 experimental centers, 145 on-campus laboratories, 2 engineering training centers, 135 off-campus practice bases, 3 key laboratories in the autonomous region, and Xinjiang Unconventional Energy Development Collaborative Innovation Center, Key scientific research platforms such as the Geothermal R&D Center and the Research Center for Energy Refined Management Technology have effectively ensured the improvement of the quality of education and teaching.
The school has a team of teachers with reasonable structure, high teaching level and strong scientific research ability. There are more than 900 faculty members, including 591 full-time teachers. Personnel with master's, doctoral degree or above, and degree accounted for 77% of the total number of full-time teachers; teachers with senior professional titles accounted for 34% of the total number of full-time teachers. There are 25 "Tianshan Scholars" in the Autonomous Region, 2 high-level talents in the Autonomous Region, and 7 "Tianshan Elites" in the Autonomous Region. There are 3 outstanding teaching teams in the autonomous region. The school insists on the construction of disciplines and majors as the key to building the school's core competitiveness, and is guided by the development needs of strategic emerging industries in the autonomous region, continuously optimizing the discipline structure and layout, and has built a number of engineering majors with strong advantages. The school currently has 33 undergraduate majors and 22 majors for junior college admissions, which are distributed in 5 disciplines including engineering, economics, management, literature, and art. Among them, there is 1 national quality construction major, 6 major industries in the autonomous region that are in short supply of talents, 4 specialties of the autonomous region, and the mining engineering major is listed in the Ministry of Education's Excellent Engineer Program.
The school has always adhered to the road of integration of production, education and research. In recent years, teachers have undertaken more than 150 scientific research projects at the national and autonomous regional levels. Among them, there are 1 major international cooperation project of the Ministry of Science and Technology, 15 national-level projects, and more than 40 projects of the Science and Technology Department. Published more than 1,000 academic papers. There are 65 authorized patents and more than 40 patents have been accepted. He has won more than 20 awards for scientific and technological progress and social science awards in the autonomous region and Urumqi.
There are nearly 15,000 full-time students in the school. Students have won more than 100 awards in the "Invention Cup", "Challenge Cup", "3D Competition", "Robot Competition" and various competitions at all levels in the autonomous region. The Mechanical Design Innovation Association won the honorary title of "Xiaoping Science and Technology Innovation Team" for national college students, becoming the only college in the autonomous region that has won this honor. The employment rate of school graduates has remained above 94% for many consecutive years, and has been awarded the honorary title of "National Advanced Collective for Employment of College Graduates".
In the 60 years since the school was founded, the school has sent more than 60,000 graduates to the society, most of whom have grown into scientific and technological elites, management backbones and leaders in modernization and industry development, providing strong local advantages and the development of pillar industries.
