Xinjiang University of Finance and Economics is a key university established by the People's Government of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. Its predecessor was the Xinjiang Provincial People's Government Training Course for Cadres established in 1950; it was upgraded to Xinjiang Finance and Economics Institute in 1959; it was converted to Xinjiang Finance and Trade School in 1962; and the Xinjiang Finance and Economics Institute was restored with the approval of the State Council in 1980. In 2000, Xinjiang University of Finance and Economics merged with Xinjiang Institute of Economics and Management and Xinjiang School of Finance and Taxation to form the new Xinjiang University of Finance and Economics; in 2007, it was renamed Xinjiang University of Finance and Economics with the approval of the Ministry of Education.
The school campus covers a total area of 630502 square meters, the school building area is 565,295 square meters, of which 107,270 square meters are used for teaching and administration, and the student dormitory area is 118,966 square meters. The school has six majors: economics, management, law, engineering, science, and literature. At present, a multi-disciplinary and multi-level school structure and system has been formed with undergraduate education, postgraduate education, and continuing education as the main forms of school running. As of October 2020, there are 22,024 students of various types in the school, including 14,848 ordinary undergraduates, 2,323 postgraduates, 69 doctoral students, 22 international students, and 4,630 adult undergraduates. The school was granted the right to grant a master's degree in 1998, and firstly obtained the right to run a school in Xinjiang in 2001. In 2012, it was approved as the "China (Xinjiang)-Central Asia Economic and Trade Cooperation Serving the National Special Needs Doctoral Talent Training Project", and was approved for a doctorate in 2018. The school has first-level discipline doctoral degree authorization points in applied economics, 6 first-level discipline master degree authorization points, 1 second-level discipline master degree authorization point, and 13 professional degree master authorization points. It has 3 first-level key disciplines in the autonomous region (including 1 peak discipline and 2 plateau disciplines). It was approved as a post-doctoral research station for applied economics in 2014. There are currently 38 undergraduate majors, 4 national characteristic majors, 1 comprehensive reform pilot major of the Ministry of Education, 6 national first-class undergraduate majors, 2 autonomous region-level first-class undergraduate majors, and 4 autonomous regional key majors , 4 autonomous region experimental teaching demonstration centers, 5 national-level first-class undergraduate courses, and 1 autonomous region-level first-rate undergraduate course. It has built a national-level crowd-creation space and was named the first batch of demonstration schools in the country to deepen the reform of innovation and entrepreneurship education.
The school insists on basing itself in Xinjiang, focusing on the construction of the "Silk Road Economic Belt Core Area", and the level of scientific research has been continuously improved. In 2020, our school was approved for 20 national scientific research projects with a total project value of 4.33 million, including 16 from the National Social Science Fund and 4 from the National Natural Science Foundation; 40 provincial and ministerial scientific research projects were approved with a total funding of 2.24 million Yuan. The school continues to improve its ability to serve the regional economy. In 2020, the school signed and won 39 horizontal projects, with a total contract value of 4.373 million yuan, and provided 12 counseling reports. The school currently has 15 teaching faculties, as well as MBA colleges and continuing education colleges. It has the Silk Road Economics and Management Research Institute, the Horgos Research Institute, and the Kashgar Regional Economic Development Research Institute. It has two national research centers of the Ministry of Education, the Kazakhstan Research Center and the Central Asian Research Center. China (Xinjiang) and China There are three key research bases for humanities and social sciences in general colleges and universities in the autonomous region: the Research Center for Asian Regional Economic Cooperation, the Xinjiang Enterprise Development Research Center, and the Xinjiang Social and Economic Statistics Research Center. The school has established counterpart support relationships with Central University of Finance and Economics, Renmin University of China, and established cooperative relationships with Xi’an Jiaotong University, Zhongnan University of Economics and Law, Southwestern University of Finance and Economics, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics; More than 40 foreign universities such as Novosibirsk University of Economics and Management in Russia have established cooperative relations and established a Confucius Institute in cooperation with Jubanov State University in Aktobe, Kazakhstan.
