Sichuan University for Nationalities is a full-time general undergraduate college in Sichuan Province. The school started as the "Kangding Teachers College for Nationalities" established in 1985. Hu Yaobang, then General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, wrote the name of the school in Chinese; in 1986, he was deputy to the National People's Congress. The chairman of the committee, the tenth Panchen Lama Erdeni Chökyi Gyaltsen, inscribed the name of the school in Tibetan. In 2004, Ganzi Prefecture carried out the integration of educational resources. In 2009, it was approved by the Ministry of Education to be upgraded to an undergraduate college. In 2013, it obtained the qualification for bachelor's degree granting and passed the qualification evaluation of undergraduate teaching work by the Ministry of Education in 2015.
After 36 years of construction and development, the school now has 13 teaching colleges, 32 undergraduate majors, 14 second bachelor degree majors, 8 junior college majors and ethnic preparatory education, 133 internship training bases, and postgraduates Entrance examinations, qualification examinations for primary and secondary school teachers, etc. The school has established a Khamba cultural and social science popularization base, and established 28 characteristic research institutions. The Khamba Archives has collected more than 30,000 copies of Khamba literature and characteristic materials (letters), forming the advantages and characteristics of the Khamba area. .
The school currently has more than 10,000 full-time students, including more than 3,000 ethnic minority students; more than 800 faculty members, including more than 170 senior professional and technical positions, and more than 300 teachers with doctoral and master's degrees.
Since the establishment of the school, more than 40,000 college graduates and more than 5,000 Tibetan-Chinese bilingual talents have been trained for the society. Nearly 20,000 of them are rooted in the grassroots of ethnic regions. They teach modern civilization, maintain the unity of the motherland, and promote national unity. Most of them have become business backbones. The remaining people serve the masses of all ethnic groups in the grassroots leadership positions and have become the backbone of the new Ganzi for building a beautiful, ecological and harmonious socialist modernization.
