The University of Electronic Science and Technology of China is located in Chengdu, Sichuan Province. It was formerly known as Chengdu Telecommunication Engineering College. It was deployed by Premier Zhou Enlai in 1956. The telecommunications engineering related majors of South China Institute of Technology (now South China University of Technology) were merged and created.
The school was listed as a national key institution of higher learning by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China in 1960. In 1961, it was designated by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China as one of the seven national defense industry colleges. In 1988, it was renamed the University of Electronic Science and Technology. In 2000, it was transferred from the former head of the Ministry of Information Industry to the head of the Ministry of Education. In 2001, it entered the ranks of the national "985 Project" key construction universities, and in 2017 it entered the ranks of the national construction "world-class universities" Class A universities. After more than 60 years of construction, the school has formed a multi-level and multi-type talent training pattern from undergraduates to masters and doctoral students.
