Xi’an Conservatory of Music is a full-time general higher education institution that trains music and art professionals. It is one of the 11 independently established music majors in the country. It is also the only independent higher music institution in the Northwest region and is affiliated to the Shaanxi Provincial Department of Education.
school is located in the world famous historical and cultural city of Xi’an. The school was founded in October 1949, the same age as the Republic. The predecessor was the "Music Department of Northwest Military and Political University" established by Marshal He Long in the Jinsui Border Region. In 1950, it was renamed as "Northwest Art College"; in 1953, it was adjusted to "Northwest Art College"; in 1956, the school's music and fine arts departments were established separately, and the music department was rebuilt as "Xi'an Music College"; in 1957 the college moved to Xi'an as a whole The current site of Chang'an Middle Road, Yanta District, Southern Suburb, was officially named Xi’an Conservatory of Music in 1960, and was renamed Shaanxi Academy of Art before the reform and opening up; in 1980, following the spring breeze of reform and opening up, the school resumed the Xi’an Conservatory of Music with the approval of the State Council.
The school has worked hard to start a business, and it has gone through a long journey through twists and turns. In the 68 years of Xiange's continuous development and forging ahead, the school has adhered to the school motto of "Ming Morality, Music and Sound" and the school philosophy of "Harmony but Difference, Outstanding Distinction", and actively serves the needs of national and local economic, social and cultural development. The school occupies a total area of 89547.1 square meters and a building area of about 289 million square meters; there are 527 faculty members and 4,542 full-time students. At present, the school has School of Music Education, School of Modern Music, Department of Musicology, Department of Composition and Composition Technology Theory, Department of Orchestra, Department of Folk Music, Department of Vocal Music, Department of Piano, Department of Dance, Department of Sight-singing and Ear Training, Basic Department, Art There are 12 teaching units in the theoretical research room, and there are also directly affiliated units such as the Graduate School, Modern Education Technology and Network Information Center, and affiliated secondary schools, libraries, and Shaanxi Philharmonic Orchestra. There are also symphony orchestras, symphonic wind orchestras, national orchestras, choirs, Xi'an drum music troupe, Qin Zheng art troupe and other art practice groups for college students. "Northwest National Music Research Center" is the key research base of philosophy and social sciences in Shaanxi Province (colleges and universities).
The school now has two first-level disciplines, art theory and music and dance studies, both of which are provincial-level superior disciplines. Among them, the "Chang'an School of Music Research" under the jurisdiction of "Music and Dance" is a provincial characteristic discipline. Among the 10 undergraduate majors offered, 5 majors are provincial-level first-class professional construction projects. 12 second-level discipline master degree authorization points, covering all 57 professional directions of the school. In terms of curriculum construction, there are 1 national-level quality courses and 10 provincial-level quality courses.
The school has 325 full-time teachers, including 4 experts enjoying the "Special Allowance from the State Council", 1 expert from the "Hundred Talents Program" of Shaanxi Province, 1 artist from the "Hundred Talents Program", 5 experts with outstanding contributions, and "three-five-five talents." 5 people, 8 provincial-level teaching teachers, 2 of whom were selected as members of the Teaching Steering Committee of the Music and Dance Subject and Art Theory Subject of the Ministry of Education. The journal Symphony, founded in 1982, is a comprehensive music academic quarterly published to the public at home and abroad. It is now included in the compilation of the "Overview of Chinese Core Journals (Sixth Edition)".
