Northwest University is located in the ancient city of Xi'an. Our school is located in the southern suburbs of Xi'an, a famous ancient city in China. The campus covers an area of more than 1,000 acres. Looking far away at Zhongnan (Qinling Mountains) and close to Fengshui, it has always been a treasured land of geomantic omen in history. One of the famous Guanzhong Eight Scenic Spots, "The Smoke of Thatched Cottage" is close at hand, and the prototype of the idiom story of "The Shortcut to the South" takes place here. According to the research of Chinese cultural history experts, the mainstream of Chinese culture originated in the Western Zhou Dynasty, and the source of Western Zhou culture was from Fengshui, which is the famous "Fenghao Culture". Li Shimin, the great monarch in the history of our country, worked here in the summer after taking office, and finally died here.
The ancient city of Xi’an was once the capital of thirteen dynasties, and each dynasty designated it as a royal inner court. Now there is a place called "Neiyuan Village" near the school. In modern and contemporary times, especially since the reform and opening up, people praised this place as the "back garden" of the ancient city and the "green lung" of Xi'an. It has been planned by Xi'an as a humanities, tourism, science and education district. It is forbidden to set up factories here and only develop scientific research and education. In recent years, the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, the Western University of Technology, the University of Petroleum, the University of Architecture and Technology, and the Youth Vocational College have been established here. The campus of the school is divided into north and south areas. The south area is the teaching area. It consists of Shaoguangmen, a large teaching building (four buildings for grammar, economics, management, art, and media), and a large library. The buildings are of European classical style. The South Gate (Shaoguang Gate) is one of the most majestic and classic gates in our country's universities, and it is also a rare university entrance facing Nankai in the region.
After entering the door, one main road to the east and one west, named East Avenue and West Avenue, and then to the outside are secondary trunk roads, named Southeast Avenue and Southwest Avenue. The four teaching buildings are located in the east and west wings of the park formed at the southern end of the four main roads. Each teaching building consists of a five-story main building and two podium buildings on both sides connected to it. The teaching building is spacious and bright, with plenty of seats. The average number of seats for multimedia students in teaching facilities far exceeds the national standard.
The library is located between the southern ends of the east and west avenues and is a super large building. The main entrance of the library opens to the south, and large steps rise up, and six huge Roman columns stand on the veranda. In the center of the building is an extra large patio, and sunlight is poured into the hall through a glass curtain. The library is divided into two sides, including natural sciences, social sciences, finance, literature and art, newspapers and magazines, etc. There is also a special library-Guoxue Library, which is rare in colleges and universities. The library has rich collections of Chinese Studies, Confucianism, and Guanxue. The books can be read by graduate students and related scholars. The library's entire collection of books has reached a million volumes, exceeding national standards.
The northern side of the library is a rare water landscape among the universities in the region-Zhongnan Lake where natural springs converge, green lotus on the lake, reeds, rippling lake water, and pines and willows on the island in the middle of the lake. The rare classical clock tower stands on the island in the lake. You can see from the top of the tower and the scenery south of the ancient city can be seen. The tree-lined roads around the lake surround the mountains, with flowers and trees competing for show.
The north campus is the living area, the buildings are modern in style, and the colors are warm and bright. There is a super-large dining building on the main axis. The naming of the school’s roads is dedicated: the north-south direction is the road, and the east-west direction is the road. The roads are as mentioned above. The roads are named Chunfeng Road, Xiayang Road, Qiushui Road and Dongxue Road according to the four seasons.
According to the historical and cultural time sequence and moral concepts, they are named Chenguang Road, Zunqin Road, Shiguang Road, Zunshi Road, Wenbo Road, Inspirational Road, Renai Road, Qinpu Road, Wenquan Road, Fengshui Road and so on. Both sides of the road are densely planted with excellent tree species such as cedar, acacia, neem, begonia, dangui, ginkgo, Chinese pine, phoenix tree, luan tree, albizia, etc. Now the campus has flowers in all four seasons (winter is winter plum and loquat), and the four seasons are evergreen.
