school was founded in 1955, formerly known as Xi’an Aviation Industry School, under the former Ministry of Aviation Industry. In 1957, it merged with Lanzhou Aviation Industry School. In 1960, it was upgraded to a technical school and renamed Xi'an Aviation Industry Technical School, which was later restored due to the adjustment of the national economy. In 1985, it was upgraded to Xi’an Aviation Industry Technical College approved by the former State Education Commission, and was renamed Xi’an Aviation Technical College in 1993. In 1999, it was transferred to the local government and was subordinated to the Shaanxi Provincial People's Government to jointly build colleges and universities for the central and local governments. In 2012, it was upgraded to a general undergraduate college approved by the Ministry of Education and renamed Xi'an Aeronautical Institute.
