Baoji University of Arts and Science is a provincial general undergraduate college founded in 1958. In the 63-year history of running a school, generation after generation of liberal arts and sciences have made great strides forward. In 2008, the school was awarded the title of "Outstanding School for Undergraduate Teaching Evaluation of General Higher Education" by the Ministry of Education; in 2013, the school was approved as a "Master's Degree Awarding Unit" by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council; in 2017, the school was listed as a new doctoral degree awarding unit by Shaanxi Province Project construction plan; In October 2017, the Shaanxi Provincial Department of Education and Baoji Municipal People’s Government signed an agreement to jointly promote the establishment of Baoji University; Development starting point.
The school has three campuses, namely the Hi-tech Campus, Shigu Campus, and Panlong Campus, covering an area of more than 2,800 acres; the library has accumulated more than 3 million books of various types. There are more than 20,000 full-time postgraduates and undergraduates, including nearly 815 postgraduates. There are more than 1,600 faculty members, including more than 1,100 full-time teachers; among the teachers, there are more than 520 senior titles and more than 300 doctors. At the same time, more than 120 well-known experts and scholars at home and abroad have been hired as part-time or special-appointed professors of the school. More than 70 teachers have been awarded titles at or above the provincial and ministerial level such as State Council Outstanding Contribution Expert, National Excellent Teacher, Shaanxi Province Outstanding Contribution Expert, Shaanxi Province Teaching Teacher, and Shaanxi Province Excellent Teacher.
The school has 17 secondary colleges and 64 undergraduate majors, covering 10 disciplines, including liberal arts, sciences, engineering, management, philosophy, economics, law, education, history, and art. Among them, 30 majors have been approved by ordinary colleges and universities. Two bachelor degree majors. There is currently 1 national-level characteristic specialty; 2 majors are determined as national-level first-class professional construction points, 11 majors are determined as provincial-level first-class professional construction points; there are 3 provincial-level famous brand majors, 5 provincial-level characteristic majors, 4 provincial-level comprehensive reform pilot majors; 6 provincial-level experimental teaching demonstration centers, 2 provincial-level virtual simulation experimental teaching centers, and 7 provincial-level college talent training model innovation experimental areas.
The school currently has 7 first-level academic master degree authorization points in Chinese language and literature, chemistry, geography, mathematics, philosophy, physics, and pedagogy, and 5 professional master degrees in education, master of education, master of machinery, master of tourism management, and master of arts. Authorized points, covering 46 secondary disciplines (fields); 1 provincial-level first-class discipline, 6 provincial-level key disciplines; 3 provincial-level key laboratories, 4 provincial-level philosophy and social science key research bases, and 2 Provincial-level social science popularization base, 1 provincial-level popular science education base, 1 provincial-level popular science research center, and 1 provincial-level crowd-creation space. In recent years, the school has won more than 90 national scientific research projects, more than 500 provincial and ministerial scientific research projects, and won more than 40 national teaching achievement awards and provincial and ministerial scientific research awards. The school running level and scientific research ability have been significantly improved.
