Xianyang Normal University is a provincial undergraduate college featuring teacher education. The school started as the "Xianyang Specialist Course of Shaanxi Normal University" in May 1978. In December 1978, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, the "Xianyang Teachers College" was established. In May 2001, it merged with Xianyang College of Education in Shaanxi Province to establish Xianyang Normal College. In October 2004, the Xianyang branch of Shaanxi Radio and Television University was merged. In July 2016, Shaanxi Province Mechanical and Electrical Engineering School was placed under the school.
The school is located in Xianyang, a famous historical and cultural city. It has two campuses, Weicheng and Qindu. The campus covers an area of 824 acres, has an internship training base of 2,650 acres, and a school building area of 500,000 square meters.
