Shaanxi University of Science and Technology is the only multi-disciplinary university in the western region of my country with the characteristics of light industry. It is a national "central and western university basic capacity building project" construction university, and it is a high-level university that Shaanxi Province will focus on during the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan" period. It is a key university jointly built by the People's Government of Shaanxi Province, China National Light Industry Council and China National Light Industry Corporation. The school was founded in 1958 and was named Beijing Institute of Light Industry at the time. It was the first college of light industry in New China; it moved to Xianyang, Shaanxi in 1970 and was renamed Northwest Institute of Light Industry; in 1978, it was identified as one of the 88 key universities in the country by the State Council. In 1998, the school was transferred to Shaanxi Province, implementing a system of joint construction between the central and local governments with local management as the mainstay; in 2002, approved by the Ministry of Education, it was renamed as Shaanxi University of Science and Technology; in 2006, the main body of the school moved east to Xi’an.
The school has three campuses: Xi’an Weiyang Campus, Taihua Road Campus and Xianyang Campus, with a total area of 2,055 acres and a building area of 1.296 million square meters. The Xi’an campus covers an area of 1,590 acres, with reasonable planning, complete functions, advanced facilities, and a beautiful environment. It is located on the banks of the beautiful Bahe River and Weiyang Lake.
