School was founded in the early days of the founding of New China. Its predecessor was the Shaanxi and Gansu post and telecommunications training courses established in 1950 and the Xi’an Post and Telecommunications School later. In March 2012, the school was renamed Xi'an University of Posts and Telecommunications with the approval of the Ministry of Education. The school is located in the Southern Suburb Cultural District of Xi'an, covering an area of more than 1,500 acres.
