Xi'an University of Finance and Economics is a general higher education institution sponsored by the Shaanxi Provincial People's Government and jointly established by the Shaanxi Provincial People's Government and the National Bureau of Statistics. The predecessor of the school can be traced back to the Northwest Trade School founded in 1952. In June 2001, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, Shaanxi Institute of Economics and Trade merged with Xi'an Institute of Statistics to form Xi'an Institute of Finance and Economics. On November 30, 2018, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, Xi’an University of Finance and Economics was renamed Xi’an University of Finance and Economics. The school has 4 campuses, Chang'an, Yanta, Cuihua East, and Cuihua West, covering an area of more than 1,600 acres. The Yanta and Cuihua campuses are adjacent to the well-known Big Wild Goose Pagoda of the Tang Dynasty at home and abroad. The Chang'an campus is located on the Shenheyuan at the northern foot of the Qinling Mountains, with an elegant environment and profound cultural heritage.
The school focuses on economics and management, highlights the advantages and characteristics of statistics, finance, finance, accounting and other disciplines. It is supported by literature, law, science, engineering, and art, and focuses on the coordinated development of multiple disciplines. The school now has 12 colleges including the School of Economics, the School of Statistics, the School of Business, the School of Management, the School of Information, the School of Law, the School of Letters, the School of Public Administration, the School of Foreign Languages, the School of Continuing Education, the School of International Education, and the School of Marxism, as well as physical education. The school currently has 5 first-level discipline master's programs and 6 professional master's degree authorization programs. Statistics is the discipline of Shaanxi Province's "domestic first-class discipline construction university"; the school has 47 undergraduate majors, including 4 national-level "first-class undergraduate majors" construction points, 14 provincial-level "first-rate undergraduate majors" construction points, and 2 National-level professional comprehensive reform pilot projects, 8 provincial-level professional comprehensive reform pilot projects, 3 national-level characteristic majors, 6 provincial-level characteristic majors, and 3 provincial-level famous-brand majors. Currently, the school has more than 17,000 full-time students and 60 international students.
The school has always adhered to the cultivation of talents as the foundation and the improvement of the quality of education and teaching as the center. The core competitiveness and social influence have been significantly enhanced, and the construction has achieved remarkable results. In 2007, he was awarded "Excellent" in the undergraduate teaching level evaluation by the Ministry of Education. In recent years, it has won 26 national and provincial teaching achievement awards, built 36 provincial-level quality resource courses (including MOOCs), and 9 provincial-level teaching teams. The school recruits students from 31 provinces (municipalities and autonomous regions) across the country, and candidates apply for the exams. In the past five years, the average admission rate of the school’s national first choice is 85.6%, and the average one-time employment rate of undergraduates has exceeded 90%.
The school insists on serving the regional economic and social development, with the core of serving the regional economic transformation and development, finds the entry point for scientific research, and makes use of 9 provincial and ministerial scientific research bases and 3 provincial and ministerial science popularization bases including the China (Xi'an) Silk Road Research Institute. With 11 university-level scientific research bases, it has carried out targeted scientific research work, served regional economic construction and achieved fruitful results, and continued to deepen and expand the integration of production, education and research. In the past five years, teachers have undertaken more than 1,100 scientific research projects at various levels, including more than 300 national, provincial and ministerial scientific research projects, and 36 scientific research achievements have been awarded provincial and ministerial outstanding scientific research achievements. The school has established a training base for education statistics personnel of the Ministry of Education and a training base for statistics personnel of the National Bureau of Statistics, which has trained a large number of statistical business backbones for the national education system and the national statistical industry.
The school has carried out extensive international cooperation and exchanges, and has established friendly cooperative relations with 80 well-known foreign universities, including the University of South Wales in the United Kingdom, the St. Petersburg State University of Economics in Russia, Yonsei University in South Korea, the University of Stella in Malaysia, and the Bonn Savings Bank Consortium College in Germany.
