Qingdao Ocean Shipping Vocational College was established in 1976. It is located in Shinan District, Qingdao City. It is located in the core area of politics, economy and culture in Qingdao. It is a school with distinctive characteristics, first-class education quality, and profound cultural background; it integrates academic education and on-the-job training. State-owned public colleges and universities integrating training and scientific research and development. The college is affiliated to China COSCO Shipping Group Co., Ltd., and the education administration is affiliated to Shandong Province. It is a higher vocational college that recruits students nationwide. The predecessor of the college was Qingdao Maritime School. In 1980, approved by the Ministry of Communications, it was changed to an adult college and renamed as "Qingdao Ocean Crew Training College". In 1983, approved by the Ministry of Communications, it was renamed "Qingdao Ocean Shipping Crew Academy". In 2010, it was rebuilt into a general higher vocational college approved by the Ministry of Education and renamed as "Qingdao Ocean Shipping Crew Vocational College". In 2015, it successfully passed the acceptance of the Shandong Provincial Skilled Talents Training Special School Construction Project organized by the Shandong Provincial Department of Education and the Department of Finance. Since its establishment 44 years ago, it has trained more than 60,000 talents of various types for China's ocean shipping industry.
The college covers an area of more than 544,000 square meters, with a construction area of more than 108,800 square meters, and has a total fixed asset value of 175 million yuan. It has advanced equipment and facilities such as internationally advanced navigational control simulators and domestically advanced marine engine simulators. There are more than 110 training rooms of various types; the library has a collection of more than 300,000 books and more than 700 types of Chinese and foreign periodicals.
The college currently has six departments: Navigation Department, Mechatronics Department, Ship and Ocean Engineering Department, Logistics and Shipping Management Department, Foreign Language Department, and Basic Department. There are 2 national-level teaching reform pilot majors; 1 national-level quality major, 7 provincial-level characteristic (demonstration) majors, and 5 municipal-level key majors; 2 national-level quality courses and 16 national-level quality resource sharing courses. The college has carried out industry-university-research cooperation with more than 100 well-known shipping companies at home and abroad, so as to absorb high-quality social resources, and implement talent training models such as "enterprise order type", "sandwich type" and "modern apprenticeship".
The college has 400 faculty members, including 229 full-time teachers, 23 senior titles, 146 deputy senior titles, 7 provincial-level teaching teachers, and 6 municipal-level teaching teachers; double-qualified teachers account for more than 70%, associate senior More than 40% are teachers with and above, and more than 55% are teachers with doctor's and master's degrees; the teaching staff is well structured and full of vitality. At the same time, it also hires more than 10 foreign teachers from the United States, English, Australia and other countries to teach oral English. Since 1986, the college has implemented semi-militarized management of students, focusing on cultivating students' good service consciousness and rigorous work style. The college attaches importance to and supports various forms of student club activities, social practice activities, cultural and sports activities, and has established a comprehensive quality evaluation system for students to cultivate high-quality graduates who meet the needs of enterprise development.
The college adheres to the "two-wheel drive" of academic education and on-the-job training, and has created more than ten crew training brands that are highly recognized by the company, including electronic chart training, GMDSS training, bridge/cabin resource management training, etc. Training and other 39 internationally recognized certificate training qualifications, more than 140 training projects, 37 kinds of national vocational skills appraisal qualifications, and annual training capacity of more than 20,000 people. As the "Group R&D Sub-center", the college has successively more than 60 scientific research achievements that have won superior scientific research awards such as the China Navigation Science and Technology Award.
The college has conducted extensive exchanges with Russia, Japan, France, the United Kingdom, Norway, Panama, Singapore, Finland, the United States, South Korea, Hong Kong and other countries and regions, and maintained substantial contacts in cooperation in running schools, exchanging scholars, and cooperative scientific research. The field of cooperation is constantly expanding.
On July 3, 2020, "The Party School of China COSCO Shipping Group of the Communist Party of China/China Ocean Shipping University/China Ocean Shipping Research Institute/Qingdao Ocean Shipping Crew Vocational College" held an inauguration ceremony at the new campus of Qingdao West Coast New District.
