Shandong University of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine was founded in 1985. It is the first and only private medical university that specializes in the education of Chinese Medicine and Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine after the founding of New China. In 2001, authorized by the Ministry of Education and approved by the People’s Government of Shandong Province, Shandong Liming Vocational College of Science and Technology was established on the basis of Shandong University of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine. The integration of western medicine is a school-running feature, a comprehensive private university integrating medicine, nursing, science and engineering, economics and management, art and other disciplines, and the coordinated development of various majors.
In 2014, with the strong support of the provincial government and the Provincial Department of Education, the college requisitioned 3000 acres of land at the foot of Mount Tai to build a new campus. The project was approved as a key construction project of the provincial government. In just 14 months, the first phase of 58 buildings with an investment of more than 2 billion yuan, a construction area of 420,000 square meters and 58 buildings has been erected. It has been put into use in 2017, creating a miracle in the history of the construction of colleges and universities across the country. The new campus was approved as a national-level tourist attraction, becoming the only private university in the country with a national-level tourist attraction.
In the past 40 years since its establishment, with the care and support of governments and leaders at all levels and friends from all walks of life at home and abroad, the college has trained nearly 300,000 graduates. The college has 12 second-level colleges, and 62 nationally planned programs for unified recruitment. There are currently more than 20,000 students and nearly 1,000 faculty members. The founder of the college, Professor Wang Xianming, is the earliest generation of integrated Chinese and Western medicine experts in my country. From 1956 to 1959, he responded to the call of Chairman Mao and Premier Zhou to participate in the first Chinese medicine research class in Shanghai held in Shanghai (Nobel Prize winner Professor Tu Youyou was also a student). After the establishment of the school, he organized experts to compile the country's first series of textbooks of integrated Chinese and Western medicine for colleges and universities. He devoted his life to the teaching and research of integrated traditional Chinese and western medicine in the motherland, and made pioneering and innovative contributions to the development of integrated traditional Chinese and western medicine in our country.
Professor Wang Liyi, one of the founders, chairman and principal of the college, is a retired soldier who has been to the front line twice. He enlisted in the army in 1970. He participated in the war on the front line in Guangxi in 1979 and the Laoshan front line in Yunnan in 1985 for more than 480 days. He has successively served as a representative of the Jinan Municipal People's Congress, a member of the Jinan CPPCC, and the vice chairman of the Shandong Private Entrepreneurs Association. He is currently a member of the Standing Committee of the Taian CPPCC. He was awarded the title of "Excellent Communist Party Member" twice in the provincial and municipal colleges and universities system, was awarded the "2018 Shandong Province Poverty Alleviation Advanced Individual", and was awarded the title of "Chinese Industrial Model Figure" in the selection organized by relevant national units.
In the face of a major epidemic, Chairman Wang Liyi showed his military presence and provided all the resources of the affiliated hospital of Liming College to the government for the use of epidemic isolation and observation sites, effectively alleviating the pressure of the government's shortage of public medical resources, and winning the prevention and control of the epidemic. The resistance war made a certain contribution. His outstanding deeds were highly appraised by leaders at all levels.
