Taishan College began to organize higher education in September 1958, and its history can be traced back to the Tai'an Government Normal School founded in 1905. In March 2002, the Ministry of Education approved the organization of undergraduate education. In September 2012, it was transformed into a "provincial and municipal joint construction, with the province as the main" management system. In November 2012, it passed the undergraduate teaching qualification evaluation by the Ministry of Education and was awarded in 2013. An advanced unit in the research and practice of entrepreneurship education in colleges and universities across the country. In 2015, it established the goal of building an upgraded version of the application-oriented university. In 2017, it was approved to be awarded a master's degree as a project construction unit. In 2018, it established a high level of construction with a distinctive feature of teacher education. The development goal of applied universities is to successfully complete the inspection work of the undergraduate teaching review and evaluation expert group of the Ministry of Education in 2019. In 2021, it was successfully selected as the first batch of supporting units for the construction of applied undergraduate universities in Shandong Province. 3 national-level first-class undergraduate professional construction sites and 7 provincial-level first-class undergraduate professional construction sites have been approved. The school currently has two campuses in the north and south, covering an area of 1,378 acres and a building area of 540,000 square meters. The first library of the former party and state leaders in the university was built-Wanli Library. There are 15 secondary colleges, 66 undergraduate majors, covering 9 university disciplines including literature, science, engineering, history, education, and management. It recruits students from 27 provinces (municipalities and autonomous regions) across the country, with nearly 20,000 full-time regular students. There are 1,456 faculty members, including 1,003 full-time teachers, 286 doctors, accounting for 28.5%; 580 masters, 86.3% of masters and above, 96 professors, 315 associate professors, more than 300 part-time professors, associate senior and The above personnel accounted for 41%. The school is one of the 19 provincial-level teacher education bases in Shandong Province and one of the first nine universities in Shandong Province that have the qualifications for publicly funded teacher training students.


The school has always been committed to the construction of a high-level applied university. It has successively built 10 provincial-level scientific research and innovation platforms such as key disciplines and key laboratories, 1 academician workstation, 12 school-level key disciplines, and 22 school-level superior disciplines. Since 2002, it has won 63 national-level projects, including 49 from the National Natural Science Foundation of China and 130 provincial and ministerial-level projects. Since the "13th Five-Year Plan", it has undertaken 27 national scientific research projects such as the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the National Social Science Foundation of China. Teachers and students have won 253 national awards and 823 provincial awards in a number of competitions such as the "Challenge Cup" National College Student Science and Technology Innovation Competition. Actively promote the construction of school-enterprise cooperation majors, with 14 cooperative majors (directions). Focusing on the needs of regional industries, we adhere to the concept of "T"-shaped industrial academies, and build 4 industrial academies closely integrated with leading companies, with the participation of the government, industry and other companies.


The school always insists on teaching as the center, and actively participates in major projects for the conversion of new and old kinetic energy in provinces and cities. There is 1 pilot program for comprehensive reform of the Ministry of Education, 1 national third batch of college English teaching reform demonstration projects, 1 Shandong Province talent training simulation innovation experimental zone, 3 provincial-level outstanding engineer education and training programs, and provincial-level high-level students. 4 horizontal application type project construction majors (groups). Develop and implement an action plan for serving Tai'an, vigorously carry out applied research and industry-university-research cooperation, and obtain achievements in regional tourism planning, basic education teacher training, tourism management personnel training, small and medium-sized enterprise management personnel training, primary and secondary school internship support, environmental monitoring and analysis, etc. In order to achieve greater social and economic benefits, it has made important contributions to regional economic and social development.


The school always pays attention to the establishment of an international school concept. It has successively established cooperative relations or cooperation intentions with more than 20 universities in 10 countries including the United Kingdom, Canada, Malaysia, Thailand, the United States, and Russia. It began to recruit foreign students in 1995. In 1999, it was named the first batch of Chinese education bases in the country by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council. In 2014, Sino-foreign cooperative education projects began to be held. Students go abroad for short-term exchange projects and have achieved good results. Inter-school cooperation projects represented by the "3+1" project have opened up foreign channels for students to continue their studies.
