Weifang Medical College is a full-time general higher medical school under the jurisdiction of Shandong Province. It is located in Weifang, the world-renowned kite capital in the middle of Shandong Peninsula. The history of the school can be traced back to the Ledaoyuan Medical School and Weixian American Presbyterian Hospital established by Weixian Ledaoyuan at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. In 1951, the Changwei Medical School in Shandong Province was established. In 1958, it was transformed into Changwei Medical College. It was renamed its current name in 1987.
The school started undergraduate education in 1958, was granted the right to confer a master's degree in 1986, and obtained the qualification for enrollment of international students in 1998. In 2008, he passed the evaluation of the undergraduate teaching level of the Ministry of Education with excellent results. In 2012, it was approved to serve the national special needs doctoral talent training project unit, and began to recruit doctoral students in 2013. In 2017, it was approved as a construction unit for the establishment of a doctoral degree in Shandong Province, and the school's name was changed into the "13th Five-Year Plan" for the establishment of colleges and universities in the province and reported to the Ministry of Education for the record. In 2018, the clinical medicine discipline ranked among the top 1% of ESI in the world, and the public health and preventive medicine disciplines were the "Shandong Province First-class Disciplines" cultivation and construction disciplines. The school is a pilot university for the National Excellent Doctor Education and Training Program, Shandong Province's application-oriented talent training characteristic famous school construction unit, and Shandong Province's Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program approved school.
The school has two campuses, Fuyanshan and Yuhe, covering an area of 1.2 million square meters and a building area of more than 630,000 square meters. There are 24 full-time doctoral students, more than 1,400 postgraduates, more than 13,000 undergraduates, and more than 200 international students. There are 4 national characteristic majors, 1 national virtual simulation experiment teaching center, 3 provincial high-level application-oriented key project construction majors (groups), and 9 provincial characteristic and brand majors. In January 2017, the Chinese University Undergraduate Professional Rankings jointly released by the China Science Evaluation and Research Center, our school's public service management major and anesthesiology major were ranked among the top three of similar majors in the country.
