Qingdao University of Science and Technology is a multi-disciplinary university with distinctive features and coordinated development of science, engineering, literature, economics, management, medicine, law, art, education and other disciplines. The school is a national "111 plan" project construction unit, a key construction university under Shandong Province, and a famous university with special characteristics for the training of applied basic talents in Shandong Province. The predecessor of was the Shenyang Light Industry Senior Vocational School founded in 1950, and moved to Qingdao in 1956. In 1958, it was established as the Shandong Institute of Chemical Technology with the approval of the People's Government of Shandong Province, and the process of officially holding higher education began. In 1984, it was renamed Qingdao University of Chemical Technology with the approval of the Ministry of Education. In 1998, it was transferred from the Ministry of Chemical Industry to Shandong Province. In 2001, Qingdao School of Arts and Crafts was merged into Qingdao University of Science and Technology in 2002. The Gaomi campus of Qingdao University of Science and Technology was put into use in 2009, and the Shandong Research Institute of Chemical Industry was incorporated in 2016.
