Yantai University is located in "China's Best Charming City"-Yantai. It is the coastal university closest to the sea and the longest coastline in China. It is a key comprehensive university in Shandong Province.
The school was founded in July 1984, with special approval from the Ministry of Education, Peking University and Tsinghua University jointly selected teaching, scientific research, and management backbones to assist in the construction of the school. In 1990, the "Peking University and Tsinghua University Support Committee for the Construction of Yantai University" was established to regularly study and guide the teaching, scientific research, discipline construction and reform and development of Yantai University, so that Yantai University has a higher starting point for running a school and a high level of development. In 1995, the school successfully passed the qualification evaluation of the undergraduate teaching level of the former State Education Commission. In 1998, he was granted the right to grant a master's degree. In 2004, he was awarded the "excellent" rank in the evaluation of the undergraduate teaching level of the Ministry of Education. In 2012, it was approved as the first batch of construction units for Shandong Province's prestigious school project and a doctoral talent training program for special needs of the country. In 2016, we accepted the undergraduate teaching review and evaluation led by the Ministry of Education and organized and implemented by the Shandong Provincial Department of Education, fully affirming the quality of our school's teaching. Now it has the enrollment qualifications for doctoral, master and undergraduate students and the right to confer corresponding degrees.
The school covers an area of 1.4 million square meters, with a construction area of 1,119,800 square meters, and the total value of teaching equipment is 418 million yuan. The library has a total area of 43,800 square meters. As of the end of 2017, it has a collection of more than 2.01 million printed books, more than 264,000 volumes of newspapers and periodicals, and more than 2,100 printed Chinese and foreign newspapers and periodicals are subscribed every year. More than 1.88 million types of e-books, 19,000 types of e-journals, and nearly 100 Chinese and foreign language databases have been introduced.
The school now has 22 colleges (departments), 65 research institutes, and 64 undergraduate majors, covering 10 disciplines including liberal arts, sciences, engineering, law, agriculture, medicine, economics, management, education, and art. The school has formed a multi-type and multi-level schooling pattern including undergraduate education, postgraduate education, international student education and continuing education. At present, there are more than 29,000 full-time undergraduates, postgraduates, and international students, and the undergraduates come from 31 provinces (cities, districts) across the country. There are also nearly 6,000 adult students in higher education and full-time self-study exams.
The school has a team of teachers with reasonable structure and excellent quality. There are 1,279 full-time teachers, of which 607 have associate senior professional and technical positions; 620 have doctorate degrees, accounting for 48.48% of full-time teachers. In recent years, the school has been approved for 4 national-level specialty majors, 14 provincial-level brand-featured majors, 8 provincial high-level applied professional groups covering 29 majors, and 6 majors have successfully entered the "Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program" of the Ministry of Education. And the "Outstanding Legal Talent Education and Training Program." It has been approved for 3 national quality courses and bilingual teaching demonstration course construction projects, 1 national quality resource sharing course, 35 provincial quality courses, and 3 national shared courses of the Eastern and Western University Curriculum Alliance. It has 1 national-level teaching team, 5 provincial-level teaching teams, and 1 Shandong Huangdanian-style teaching team. The school was the first batch to obtain the project of the talent team cultivation plan for the superior disciplines of Shandong colleges and universities, and 2 "Shandong colleges and universities talent training model innovation experimental zones". The Pharmaceutical Experimental Center is a national experimental teaching demonstration center, the Engineering Mechanics Experimental Center is the first national virtual simulation experimental teaching center, and there are 4 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers.

In recent years, the school has won 1 second prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award, and more than 210 awards at the provincial and ministerial level, including 1 first prize of Shandong Province Science and Technology Progress Award, and 1st prize of Scientific Research Outstanding Achievement Award (Humanities and Social Sciences) of Colleges and Universities. 4 second prizes. Presided over 310 national projects such as the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the National Social Science Foundation, the 973 Project, and the 863 Project. Presided over 674 provincial and ministerial projects, including 2 Shandong Provincial Outstanding Youth Fund. Presided over more than 1,600 horizontal topics. School is the city node unit of the Education and Research Network. "Journal of Yantai University" (Philosophy and Social Sciences Edition) is the core Chinese journal, and "Journal of Yantai University" (Natural Science and Engineering Edition) is the core journal of Chinese science and technology.
The school pays attention to the development of international and regional academic exchanges and friendly exchanges, and has established friendly cooperative relations with more than 100 colleges and academic institutions in 26 countries and regions. There are currently 2 Sino-foreign cooperative education undergraduate programs held in cooperation with universities in South Korea and the United States, and inter-school student exchange programs with 34 friendly colleges and universities in the United States, Britain, France, Germany, Japan, Switzerland, South Korea and Taiwan. The school is one of the first universities in the country to be allowed to accept foreign students and invite foreign cultural and educational experts. The Chinese education base in Shandong Province has national government scholarships for international students, Shandong provincial government scholarships for international students and Yantai University scholarships for international students. The school has test centers such as the Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK), the Korean Proficiency Test (TOPIK) and the Cambridge Business English Test (BEC).
In recent years, the school has established the first university aesthetic education research base in Shandong Province and the first university party building research base in Shandong Province.
