The predecessor of 　　 was the "Shandong Qingdao Construction Engineering School" established in December 1952. In June 1953, Shandong Province was placed under the leadership of the Ministry of Heavy Industry of the Central People's Government. In June 1960, it was upgraded to "Shandong Institute of Metallurgy" and began to recruit undergraduates. Since then, the school's affiliation has changed several times, and the school level has risen and fallen. In 1978, it was renamed "Shandong Institute of Metallurgical Industry", resumed undergraduate enrollment, and was subordinate to the Ministry of Metallurgical Industry. In September 1985, it was renamed "Qingdao Institute of Architecture and Engineering". In 1993, it was approved as a master's degree-granting unit by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council. In November 1998, it was transferred to the leadership of Shandong Province to implement the management system of "co-construction between the central and local governments, with local management as the mainstay". In May 2004, it was renamed "Qingdao Technological University". In 2005, it was approved as a doctoral degree-granting unit by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council. Since the establishment of the school, the school has established a talent training system for undergraduates, masters and doctors, and has trained more than 160,000 senior talents in science, engineering, technology and management for the society.

　　 The school currently has three campuses in Shibei, Huangdao, and Linyi. Shibei Campus is located in Qingdao City, Huangdao Campus is located in Qingdao Economic and Technological Development Zone, and Linyi Campus is located in Feixian, an old revolutionary district in Yimeng. It covers an area of about 2,165,500 square meters, with a school building area of more than 1,003,400 square meters. The library has a collection of approximately 2,197,300 books. The total value of teaching and research equipment is more than 359 million yuan.
