Datong Teachers College was founded in 1905 and is the sixth batch of key cultural relics protection units in the country. It was originally named Datongfu Middle School. It was founded in 1913 and renamed as Shanxi Provincial No. 3 Middle School. In 1972, it was renamed Datong Normal School. In 1978, it began to recruit classes from Shanxi Normal University Datong Teachers College. The Datong Branch of Beijing Normal University was renamed Shanxi Datong University Datong Normal Branch in April 2006. In September 2008, the provincial government agreed to prepare for the establishment of Datong Normal College. In 2010, the municipal government built a new campus on the original site of Datong Normal University. After the renovation and expansion, the software and hardware of the school have all reached the "Standards for the Establishment of Colleges for College Education." In March 2018, approved by the provincial government and filed by the Ministry of Education, the Datong Teachers College was established.
The school covers an area of 487 acres, the project construction land is 324829 square meters, the total construction area is 155436.88 square meters, and the total investment is 588 million yuan. The campus is divided into five areas: teaching area, living area, office area, sports area, and cultural relic area. The teaching area consists of 8 single buildings, including the arts and sciences teaching building, the art foreign language teaching building, the audio-visual teaching building, the kindergarten teaching building, and the library. Composition. The living area is composed of 8 single buildings, including student apartments, teacher apartments, expert buildings, and comprehensive service centers. The sports area consists of a gymnasium and a 400-meter standard sports field. The overall design of the university campus integrates use function, aesthetic function and education function, and the harmonious and unified forest, garden and road have been perfectly presented.
There are currently 3306 students, 199 faculty members, and 196 full-time teachers. Among the full-time teachers, there are 40 associate professors, 87 masters and postgraduates, accounting for 44%. The total value of teaching and research equipment is 21,949,400 yuan, and the library has a collection of 172,000 books. A few days ago, the Provincial Department of Education approved and registered 7 teacher-training majors by the Ministry of Education. In the next few years, the school will gradually expand non-teaching majors that meet the needs of Datong's economic development.
In recent years, the quality and quantity of school students have increased year by year, and the employment rate of graduates has been above 90%; in 2017, the pass rate of college entrance examination was 60.5%; the pass rate of primary school teacher qualification certificate was 81.8%. In 2018, among the 792 graduates, 540 registered for the college entrance examination and 243 were admitted to two A-level colleges. Since 2014, all admissions for the three-year general college entrance examination are the first choice admissions, which exceeds the provincial admission line by about 100 points.
