Shanxi Tourism Vocational College

The predecessor of Shanxi Tourism Vocational College was the Shanxi Provincial Planning and Statistics School. It was founded in 1980 and has a history of more than 40 years. In 1983, the college established the branch campus of Shanxi University and Shanxi University of Finance and Economics, and established Shanxi School of Economics and Management on this basis. In 1985, the colleges and universities were run separately. In 1991, the school became one of the first batch of 7 national key technical secondary schools out of 125 technical secondary schools in the province. In 2001, the school and Shanxi University of Finance and Economics jointly established the School of Economics and Information of Shanxi University of Finance and Economics, and began to organize higher vocational education. In January 2004, in accordance with the urgent requirements of Shanxi Province’s industrial structure adjustment and the large demand for tourism professionals in the development of emerging pillar industries, under the arrangement of the Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial Government, our college was officially approved to be upgraded to a higher vocational college and the establishment of Shanxi Tourism Vocational College. The Provincial Department of Education is the competent department, and the Provincial Tourism Bureau is the department in charge of tourism operations. In 2008, the college passed the first round of vocational college talent training work level evaluation and acceptance, with good results; in January 2008, the college took the lead in establishing the Shanxi Tourism Vocational Education Group as the chairman unit; in 2014, the college was in Shanxi Province for vocational talents In the same year, the college became one of the province’s 18 government-subsidized college graduates' entrepreneurship training designated units; in 2015, the Provincial Tourism Bureau led the construction of a pilot modern apprenticeship training model led by the college The work was approved by the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China, and our institute has become the main implementation unit of the pilot training of technical and skilled talents in the modern apprenticeship model of Shanxi's tourism industry. In 2018, the college was recognized by the Provincial Department of Education and the Provincial Department of Finance as the construction unit of high-quality higher vocational colleges in Shanxi Province.


The college is located in the academic district where colleges and universities gather in the provincial capital of Taiyuan, close to Taiyuan South Railway Passenger Transport Station. The college covers an area of 382 mu, with a school building area of 104,800 square meters. The collection of paper books and materials is 439,000 volumes. There are 310 faculty members and 5,406 students. The superior conditions for running schools have laid a solid material foundation for the construction of excellent vocational colleges.


The teaching department of the college has 7 departments, 2 departments, and 1 college, including Tourism Management Department, Hotel Management Department, Tourism Culture and Art Department, Tourism Foreign Language Department, International Economics and Trade Department, Economic Management Department, Computer Science Department, Ideological and Political Teaching Research Department , Public Curriculum Teaching Department, 9 teaching departments and Adult Education College, with 31 high schools including tourism management, tour guide, hotel management, cooking technology and nutrition, application of Korean, flight attendant service, gem identification and processing, cultural relics restoration and protection, etc. Vocational majors, including tour guides and hotel management as central financial support majors and provincial-level specialty majors, tourism management as provincial-level key majors, and accounting computerization as provincial-level brand majors. In 2018, the college's cooking technology and nutrition majors, hotel management majors, and tour guide majors became the backbone majors of higher vocational education in Shanxi Province. The college has 62 on-campus internship training rooms, 1 internship training base supported by the central government (jewelry identification and marketing internship training base); 5 provincial-level demonstration internship training bases (engineering cost training base, professional tour guide) Training base, tourism management professional training base, aviation service professional training base, hotel management professional training base); 1 school-run productive internship training base (internship training base of Wutaishan Hotel of the college). Since its establishment, more than 20,000 college students have been trained, which has made positive contributions to the transformation of our province’s industrial structure and local economic development.
