Shanxi Institute of Applied Science and Technology was founded in 1991, formerly known as Shanxi Xinghua Vocational College. In 2014, it was renamed Shanxi Institute of Applied Science and Technology with the approval of the Ministry of Education of the State. Multi-disciplinary application-oriented, international, comprehensive full-time general undergraduate colleges and universities.
In June 2016, the school became an applied undergraduate pilot university in Shanxi Province.
In February 2017, the school became a model university in Shanxi Province to deepen the reform of innovation and entrepreneurship education.
In October 2017, the school united seven undergraduate colleges and universities in the province to form the Shanxi Province Applied Colleges Alliance.
In January 2018, with the approval of the Provincial Department of Education, the school established the Shanxi Provincial Humanities and Social Sciences Key Research Base-Applied Higher Education Research Center.
In April 2018, the school successfully passed the bachelor degree authorization work of the Provincial Department of Education.
The school has 2 campuses with a total area of 622,400 square meters and a total construction area of 328,600 square meters.
