The Modern College of Arts and Science of Shanxi Normal University was established in June 2002, approved by the Shanxi Provincial People's Government and filed by the Ministry of Education. It is an independent teacher-training college that implements full-time undergraduate education with a new mechanism and new model.
The college is located in Yaodu District, Linfen City, Shanxi Province, which is known as "the source of Chinese civilization and the root of the descendants of Yan and Huang". There are currently nearly 8,000 students in the school, with 16 departments and 33 majors. The majors covered include nine disciplines including literature, science, engineering, law, history, education, management, economics, and art. Formed a discipline professional system with liberal arts disciplines as the main body, teacher education disciplines as the characteristics, applied disciplines as the growth point, and multi-disciplinary mutual penetration and mutual support.
The college currently has 586 full-time teachers, including 303 teachers with titles of professors and associate professors, accounting for 51.7% of full-time teachers; 523 teachers with doctoral and master's degrees, accounting for 89.2% of full-time teachers. The high-quality teaching staff provides a solid guarantee for the improvement of the quality of education and teaching.
The college adheres to the excellent school-running tradition of Shanxi Normal University, is based on the foundation, highlights the position of the teaching center, and pays close attention to the quality of teaching. It has established friendly relations with many foreign universities such as National Mokpo University in South Korea and Yeongnam University in South Korea. Inter-school exchanges with domestic fraternal universities have become increasingly frequent, and interaction and cooperation with all walks of life have gradually deepened. In the previous National College Students Mathematical Modeling Contest, "Internet +" National College Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, National College Students English Contest, "Huawen Cup" National College Teachers' Teaching Design/Skills Contest and other competitions have won excellent results. In 2017 and 2018, it was rated as an advanced unit of Shanxi Province for creating a "safe campus" for two consecutive years; in 2018, it was awarded as a garden unit in Shanxi Province; in 2019, the college was approved as "the second batch of excellent traditional cultural education bases in Shanxi Province". The college's Makerspace has been approved for Makerspace at the provincial and municipal levels.
