Taiyuan College is located in Taiyuan, the capital of Shanxi Province. Taiyuan was called Jinyang in ancient times, also known as "Dragon City". It borders the Fen River and is surrounded by mountains on three sides. It is an ancient capital with a history of more than 2500 years. Of energy, one of the heavy industry bases.
The predecessor of Taiyuan University was Taiyuan University, which was founded in 1984. In April 2013, it was approved by the Ministry of Education and upgraded to a full-time general undergraduate college. In September 2014, the Teachers College of Foreign Languages of Taiyuan University and the School of Education of Taiyuan University were merged with the original organizational system. The college is led by the People's Government of Shanxi Province, managed by the People's Government of Taiyuan City, and its teaching work is under the guidance of the Shanxi Provincial Department of Education.
The college is located at the southern end of Tanghuai Industrial Park, the Demonstration Zone of Transformation and Comprehensive Reform in our province, adjacent to Xiaohe Industrial Park. It is a hub area for the "same-city" construction of Taiyuan City and Jinzhong City, with prominent location advantages and convenient transportation. With the help of the development concept of "first test, first breakthrough" in the comprehensive reform demonstration zone, the college continuously innovates and explores the school-running model, and upgrades the traditional in-production teaching and research system and the function of serving the city.
The college has excellent infrastructure and excellent conditions for running schools. The college’s Fendong campus has a planned land area of 1828 acres, and currently covers an area of 1314.1 acres. It is composed of Fendong campus, Baling campus, Fudong campus, and Binhe campus. The school building area is 344,700 square meters, the total value of teaching and research equipment is 76.68 million yuan, the collection of books is more than 1.33 million volumes, and the e-books are 5.32 million volumes.
The college currently has 947 teachers, including 3 experts enjoying special allowances from the State Council, 1 "Excellent People's Artist", 24 professors, and 279 teachers with associate senior professional titles or above. Teachers with senior professional titles account for the proportion of full-time teachers. More than 30%, doctors and masters account for more than 81% of full-time teachers. There are 13 departments, 2 teaching departments (ideological and political education department, public physical education department), 2 teaching centers (public experiment center, engineering training center), and 1 continuing education college. The college has 37 undergraduate majors and 22 junior college admissions majors, covering engineering, science, literature, economics, management, art, agriculture, education and other disciplines. The college recruits students from more than 20 provinces, cities, and autonomous regions across the country, with 16,959 students.
Since its promotion, the college's scientific research awareness has gradually increased. 275 national-level core journals have been published, 227 projects above the provincial level have been established, and a zero breakthrough has been achieved in the National Social Science Fund, and 119 monographs (translations) have been published. It has officially signed cooperation agreements with Colorado State University in the United States, Fraser Valley University in Canada, Yishou University in Taiwan, Shinawatra University in Thailand and other institutions to carry out extensive international cooperation in student training, teacher exchanges, and academic research.
