Shanxi Datong University is located in Datong, the "Chinese historical and cultural city". The school history can be traced back to the 1950s. Approved by the Ministry of Education in 2002, it was formed by the merger of Yanbei Normal University, Datong Medical College, Shanxi Vocational and Technical College of Industry and Datong Vocational and Technical College, and was formally approved for establishment in March 2006. The school is a master's degree granting unit authorized by the academic degree committee of the State Council. It is a major member of the National University of Applied Technology Alliance, Shanxi Teacher Education Alliance, Shanxi Higher Medical Education Resources Alliance, and "Urban-Da-Zhang" University Education Alliance.
