Taiyuan University of Science and Technology

Taiyuan University of Science and Technology is the first heavy machinery undergraduate college in New China. It is a multidisciplinary university with distinctive school characteristics. It is also an important talent training and technology research and development base in my country's major technical equipment fields.


In 1952, the school's predecessor, Shanxi Machinery Manufacturing Industry School, was established. Mr. Zhi Bingyuan, the founder of modern Chinese machinery industry and pioneer of Chinese internal combustion engine research and development, served as the principal. In 1953, the school was placed under the Central First Ministry of Machinery Industry. In 1955, Changchun Automobile School and Hankou Machinery Manufacturing School merged the forging and punching majors. In 1960, it was renamed Taiyuan Heavy Machinery Institute. In 1965, Dalian Institute of Technology and Shenyang Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering merged into the majors of Lifting and Conveying Machinery. In 1998, it was changed to the joint construction of the province and the ministry, and the provincial administration was the main task. In 2004, it was renamed Taiyuan University of Science and Technology. After nearly 70 years of construction, it has become a teaching and research university with a focus on work, distinctive equipment manufacturing characteristics, and coordinated development of nine disciplines.


The school has a national collaborative innovation center, a national key laboratory cultivation base jointly built by the province and the ministry, an engineering research center of the Ministry of Education, a national and local joint construction engineering center and a provincial key laboratory, a provincial engineering technology research center, and a provincial humanities and social sciences A number of key research platforms such as key research bases, provincial key Marxist colleges, provincial collaborative innovation centers, and service industry innovation discipline groups. The school coordinated the construction of the "1331 Project" construction funds to build a school-level experimental resource sharing platform-the analysis and testing center, which is at an advanced level in universities in the province.


The school has long been based in Shanxi, rooted in heavy industry, and facing the whole country. It has formed distinctive school-running characteristics: first, the discipline and professional characteristics of industry and regional development. It has won national science and technology awards three times and took the lead in formulating more than 30 national industry standards. 2015 Ranked among the top 20 universities in China for patent awards in the year; second, the talent training features focusing on engineering education and practical ability development. It is the first university in the province to pass the certification of engineering education, and its student employment rate ranks among universities in Shanxi for 18 consecutive years. The school has established an industry-university-research board of directors with more than 40 major machinery manufacturing companies across the country, including Taizhong Group, Taiyuan Iron and Steel Group, Liugong Group, Xugong Group, Shantui Group, etc. More than two hundred companies across the country, including Luoyang Bearing and Industrial Engineering, have established a strategic cooperation (alliance) relationship between industry, academia and research, and cooperated with Jiangsu Haian County to build Haian Forging Equipment Industry Research Institute, and cooperated with Jincheng City, Shanxi Province to build Jincheng Industrial Technology Innovation Research Institute.


The school has 1,286 full-time teachers, including 599 teachers with senior professional titles, 50 doctoral tutors, and 425 master tutors. It has gathered a group of Yangtze River scholars, national outstanding youths, millions of talents, and new century outstanding talents from the Ministry of Education. High-level talents represented by young and middle-aged top-notch talents, young academic leaders, academic and technical leaders, "333 talents", and "young Sanjin scholars" in Shanxi Province. It has 6 provincial-level key innovation teams and more than 25,000 full-time students.


The older generation of science and technology experts overcame thorns, opened up wasteland, and forged ahead, writing a glorious chapter in the school's development history, and won the school's reputation as a famous school in China's machinery industry and the "first school" for heavy machinery undergraduates. The new generation of HKUST continued their struggle, conquering several key core technologies in major technical and equipment fields, breaking a number of foreign technology monopolies, and making outstanding contributions to the localization of major equipment in my country. In recent years, the academician team of our school has developed the world’s first full-hydraulic double-sided rolling shear, which was successfully launched in Hebei Wenfeng Iron and Steel Company; full-time Yangtze River Scholar Distinguished Professor has been introduced as the chief subject leader of the Institute of Magnetic Materials, striving to build me The provincial new material research and development highland; the school is committed to improving the intelligent and digital level of major equipment, and has newly built undergraduate majors such as robotics engineering and Internet of things engineering.
