Shanxi Medical University

The predecessor of Shanxi Medical University was Shanxi Medical School, which was founded in 1919 in the ancient city of Bingzhou. In 1932, it was changed to a private Shanxi Chuanzhi Medical College. In 1940, it was renamed as the Medical Specialty Department of Shanxi University. In 1946, he was promoted to the National Shanxi University School of Medicine. After the founding of New China, the school entered a new period of development. The school was established independently in 1953 and was renamed Shanxi Medical College. In 1996, it was renamed Shanxi Medical University.


The school is the third batch of authorized units for doctoral degree in Shanxi Province, the first batch of authorized units for master's degree, the first batch of authorized units for bachelor's degree, and the first batch of pilot units for the "Excellent Doctor Education and Training Program" of the Ministry of Education. It has been in operation for seven years nationwide. It is one of the 25 medical schools specializing in clinical medicine, one of the first eight medical schools in the country to resume undergraduate specializations in pediatrics, and the national central and western universities’ basic capacity building project supports universities.


After 102 years of construction and development, the school has become a medical university with a coordinated development of medicine-oriented, medical-industry, medical-science, medical-literacy, and medical-management. It has a comprehensive, multi-level undergraduate education centered on undergraduate education. The school has three campuses, Chuanzhi, Yingze, and Zhongdu, covering a total area of 1,422 acres and a building area of 710,000 square meters. The school currently has 8 national first-class undergraduate professional construction sites-clinical medicine, preventive medicine, forensic medicine, pharmacy, nursing, anesthesiology, stomatology, and medical laboratory technology. 5 national-level specialty construction sites. Clinical medicine (five-year program), clinical medicine (free students in rural areas), and nursing are among the first batch of national "Undergraduate Teaching Project" undergraduate professional comprehensive reform pilot majors in local colleges and universities of the Ministry of Education.
