Qinghai University for Nationalities

Qinghai University for Nationalities is located in the national civilized city—Xining, the capital of Qinghai Province. It was founded in December 1949. It is the earliest university established on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, one of the earliest ethnic universities established in New China, and the first batch of nationally awarded master’s degrees. unit. The school has formed a complete education system with undergraduate education, postgraduate education, international student education, adult education and vocational education. Qinghai Normal College and Xining Railway Driver School were merged in 2002 and 2005 respectively. The school has successively gone through the Qinghai Provincial Youth Cadre Training Class, Qinghai Provincial People's College, Qinghai Provincial College for Nationalities, Qinghai Nationalities College, etc., and was renamed Qinghai University for Nationalities in April 2009.


   In 2011, the Qinghai Provincial People's Government and the State Ethnic Affairs Commission signed an agreement to jointly build Qinghai University for Nationalities. In 2012, the Ministry of Education designated Tianjin University to support Qinghai University for Nationalities as a counterpart. In 2013, it was selected as a university of the national "Basic Ability Construction Project for Universities in the Central and Western Regions". In 2017, the Ministry of Education added Xiamen University and Renmin University of China to support Qinghai University for Nationalities.


The school has 25 colleges and 1 teaching department directly under the department. The disciplines and majors cover nine categories of literature, science, law, economics, management, education, history, medicine, and engineering; the existing doctoral authorization of ethnology is one It has 1 level discipline, and jointly cultivates doctoral students in 6 directions with Tianjin University, 12 first-level disciplines for master's degree authorization, 102 second-level master's degree authorization points, 6 professional master's degree points, and 58 undergraduate majors. The school has 1 national-level experimental teaching demonstration center, 1 national-level teaching teacher, 1 national-level teaching team, 3 national-level quality courses, 4 national-level characteristic majors, 3 national-level scientific research institutions; 13 provinces and ministries Level key disciplines, 8 provincial-level key laboratories, 6 provincial-level experimental teaching demonstration centers, 43 provincial-level quality courses and key courses, 9 provincial-level scientific research institutions and 18 school-level scientific research institutions.


   There are a total of 1,184 faculty members in the school, including 726 full-time teachers, 14 experts enjoying special allowances from the State Council, 5 tenured professors, 469 associate senior titles, and 553 full-time teachers with doctoral and master's degrees. There are 1 national model teacher, 4 outstanding teachers, 1 national-level new century tens of millions of talents, 2 outstanding talents, 10 leading talents, and 18 top talents in Qinghai Province’s "High-end Innovative Talents Thousand Talents Plan".


   There are 13,328 students from 31 ethnic groups including Han, Tibetan, Hui, Tu, Salar and Mongolia from 30 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions across the country, including 9,559 undergraduate and junior college students, and 1,488 doctoral and master students. Up to now, the school has trained more than 90,000 qualified talents of various nationalities for the country.


In the past 5 years, the school has undertaken a total of 691 scientific research projects at various levels, including 320 at the national, provincial and ministerial levels; published 210 monographs and textbooks, published 1577 papers, and won 189 scientific research achievement awards at or above the provincial and ministerial level. Level governments provide more than 50 think tank reports. In 2016, our school was approved for the first time for a major bidding project of the National Social Science Fund and one major commissioned project of the Ministry of Education's philosophy and social science research. A total of 27 National Social Science Fund projects (including Art Fund projects) and Natural Science Fund projects were approved in 2017, of which one was approved for a major bidding project of the National Social Science Fund. The number of National Social Science Fund projects ranks second in the national colleges and universities for nationalities. The school edits and publishes 4 kinds of publicly issued academic journals at home and abroad, including "Qinghai Ethnic Studies", "Journal of Qinghai University for Nationalities" (Philosophy and Social Science Edition, Tibetan Edition) and "Qinghai-Tibet Plateau Forum". Among them, "Qinghai Ethnic Studies" ranks among Beijing The three core journals of University, Nanjing University and Chinese Academy of Social Sciences rank among the three core journals.


   The school covers an area of more than 1,500 acres, with a building area of 440,000 square meters, and a collection of more than 2,059,500 books.


  The school is a designated educational unit for foreign students approved by the Ministry of Education. There are currently more than 300 international students. The school cooperates with the University of Virginia in the United States, the University of Technology Dresden in Germany, the Nanshan University in Japan, the University of Malaya in Malaysia, the University of Ulaanbaatar in Mongolia, the Hannan University in South Korea, and the 36 Chinese Culture University in Taiwan and other countries and regions. The colleges and universities have established cooperative and exchange relations.
