Dalian University of Foreign Languages

Dalian University of Foreign Languages is located in Dalian, Liaoning Province. It is a provincial university in Liaoning Province and the only public foreign language university in Northeast China. The school was established in 1964 under the kind care of Premier Zhou Enlai. It was then called Dalian Japanese Language College. In 1970, it was renamed Liaoning Foreign Language College. It opened undergraduate education in 1974, renamed Dalian University of Foreign Languages in 1978, and renamed Dalian University of Foreign Languages in 2013. At present, it has developed into a multidisciplinary foreign language university with major foreign languages, with the characteristics of international education, and with disciplines such as literature, economics, management, engineering, law, and art. In 2016, it was selected as the "Key Construction University of Liaoning Province", and the foreign language and literature discipline was selected as the "First-Class Discipline" of Liaoning Province.



The school has two campuses, Lushun campus and Zhongshan campus, with a total area of 1,261,500 square meters and a building area of 473,100 square meters. The library has 2.05 million paper books, 675 paper newspapers and periodicals, and 1.01 million e-books.


There are 21 teaching units under the school, a doctoral training program of "High-end Talents in Northeast Asia Diplomacy and Foreign Affairs" serving the special needs of the country, and 2 first-level master's programs in foreign language and literature and Chinese language and literature, and 17 second-level disciplines Master's degree and 5 professional degree master's degree. Among them, foreign language and literature are first-class subjects in Liaoning Province, and Russian language and literature, English language and literature, Japanese language and literature, and Spanish language and literature are key subjects of Liaoning Province. The school has 40 undergraduate majors, covering 15 foreign languages. Among them, 7 majors including English, Russian, German, French, Japanese, Korean, and translation were selected as the first batch of national first-class undergraduate majors, 4 national-level characteristic majors, 3 advantageous undergraduate majors in Liaoning Province, and exemplary undergraduate majors in Liaoning Province 5, 4 pilot majors for comprehensive undergraduate reform in Liaoning Province, 2 pilot majors for the internationalization of undergraduate curriculum system in ordinary colleges and universities in Liaoning Province, 2 demonstration majors for the transformation of ordinary colleges and universities in Liaoning Province to application-oriented, 2 pilot majors for innovation and entrepreneurship education reform in Liaoning Province 1 professional.


Currently, the school has nearly 15,000 full-time students. There are 1062 faculty members in the school, including 648 full-time teachers and 63 foreign teachers. There are 1 national teaching teacher, 1 national "Ten Thousand Talents Program" teaching teacher, 13 provincial teaching teachers, 7 recipients of special allowance from the State Council, 7 members of the Foreign Language and Literature Teaching Steering Committee of Higher Education Ministry of Education, 3 outstanding provincial experts, 2 specially-appointed professors in Liaoning Province, 1 climbing scholar in Liaoning Province, 7 outstanding provincial teachers, 2 provincial-level young and middle-aged subject leaders, 4 provincial-level professional leaders, provincial-level hundreds of thousands There are 60 people in the Ten Thousand Talents Project. The school has 14 doctoral supervisors and 221 master supervisors.


In recent years, remarkable achievements have been made in school education and teaching reform. Won 2 National Teaching Achievement Awards, 45 Provincial Teaching Achievement Awards, 14 Provincial Excellent Courses, 2 National Excellent Resource Sharing Courses, 5 Provincial Excellent Resource Sharing Courses, 1 Provincial Excellent Video Open Course . 1 national-level teaching team, 1 national university Huang Danian-style teacher team, and 5 provincial-level teaching teams were awarded.


The school has achieved fruitful scientific research results. The comparative culture research base is the key research base of humanities and social sciences of the Education Department of Liaoning Province, and the simultaneous interpretation laboratory is the key laboratory of Liaoning Province. The school currently has 27 scientific research institutions, including 7 research centers registered with the Ministry of Education. Since 2012, nearly 400 scientific research projects at or above the provincial level have been approved, including one major project from the National Social Science Fund. Published more than 400 academic papers above core journals, 32 textbooks were approved as national and provincial planning textbooks for general higher education under the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan" period, and nearly 300 academic achievements have won scientific research awards at or above the municipal level. The "Foreign Language and Foreign Language Teaching" sponsored by the school was selected as one of the top 100 journals in the national liberal arts, and also included in the core journals of CSSCI and Peking University.


In recent years, more than 500 students of the school have won awards in various national, provincial, municipal and regional professional competitions. School volunteers are active in major international events such as the Olympic Games, Paralympics, Summer Davos, and the Asia-Europe Economic Ministers’ Meeting. In recent years, the annual employment rate of graduates has been above 95%. Since the establishment of the school, more than 100 graduates have entered the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.


The school has distinctive characteristics of international running. It has established friendly, cooperative and exchange relations with 232 universities and institutions in 37 countries and regions. The school currently has many international platforms such as the Confucius Institute, the Sino-Russian University Student Exchange Base, the Russian Language Center, the chairman unit of the Chinese Presidents Committee of Shanghai He University, and the Liaoning Province International Foreign Language Talent Training Model Innovation Experimental Zone. Through exchange study, undergraduate double degree, undergraduate and master degree, master and doctor degree, multilingual communication, international training and other training modes, we cooperate with well-known foreign universities to train undergraduates, masters, and doctoral students, sending nearly 1,000 students every year Students go to foreign friendly colleges and universities to study and participate in practical projects. The school relies on the 8 major publicly-sponsored programs of the China Scholarship Council to send nearly 150 students to 14 overseas countries to study each year. Up to now, the school has established 10 Confucius Institutes. Since 2015, a total of 8,535 international students from 69 countries including Russia, Japan, South Korea, Australia, and New Zealand have come to study at the school.
