Dalian Jiaotong University is the only college of higher learning featuring rail transit in Northeast China. In 1956, the school was established in response to the development needs of my country's railway rolling stock industry, and was the Dalian Locomotive and Rolling Stock Manufacturing School. In 1958, it was upgraded to Dalian Railway Institute, under the management of the former Ministry of Railways. In February 2000, it was transferred to the management of the Liaoning Provincial Government. In May 2004, it was renamed Dalian Jiaotong University.
