The predecessor of Bohai Shipbuilding Vocational College was the Bohai Shipbuilding Industry School, a national key technical secondary school established in 1959. Marshal Xu Xiangqian and General Yang Chengwu once inscribed the school name for the college, and it was successively affiliated to the Sixth National Ministry of Machinery Industry and China State Shipbuilding Industry Corporation. The company and the National Defense Science and Technology Commission, approved by the People’s Government of Liaoning Province and filed by the Ministry of Education in 2001, merged with Huludao Normal School and Huludao Radio and TV University. It is currently the only company in northern my country that cultivates high-quality skills in the shipbuilding industry. It is a full-time higher vocational college that mainly recruits students from all over the country. In 2004, it was rated as an "excellent level" college for the training of talents in higher vocational colleges in the country by the Ministry of Education. In 2014, it was designated as a "National Demonstrative Backbone Higher Vocational College" by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance. In 2017, it was approved by the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of Education as a directional training college for naval noncommissioned officers. In 2017, it was designated by the Liaoning Provincial Department of Education and the Department of Finance as the construction school of the "Double High Plan" project in Liaoning Province.
The college is located on the east side of Shoushan National Forest Park in Xingcheng, Huludao City, Liaoning Province. It covers an area of 728 acres and has a building area of 210,000 square meters. There are more than 8,200 full-time students.

It has 1 national excellent course and 10 excellent courses in Liaoning Province. Through school-enterprise cooperation, 54 high-quality core curriculum standards have been formulated, 54 high-quality core courses combining work and learning have been developed and 54 teaching software packages (including courseware, course simulation software, online courses, Exercise system, examination system, course evaluation system), co-edited and published 61 professional textbooks, and developed 82 online courses.
The college attaches great importance to the construction of education informatization, combined with the construction of the new campus, invested more than 25 million yuan to improve the construction of the college’s software and hardware, and built a virtualized data center, video monitoring system, digital broadcasting system, information release system, campus card system and other systems; There are 11 virtual simulation training rooms, 293 multimedia classrooms, 3 recording and broadcasting classrooms, 7 computer-based language rooms, 5 digital classrooms, digital libraries and digital learning centers, which have been identified as "Educational Information by the Ministry of Education" "Practical units of vocational education" and "Experimental Schools for Digital Campus Construction in Vocational Colleges".
