Liaoning Institute of Media and Communication was established with the approval of the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China. It is the only independent media undergraduate university in Northeast China and is currently one of the six largest media universities in the country. The school is located in Shenbei New District, Shenyang City. It has two campuses with a total area of 1,600 acres and a building area of 400,000 square meters. The school has established a discipline and professional system that focuses on media and art majors, and has cross-penetration and coordinated development of literature, art, management and other disciplines. There are eight teaching departments including the Department of Interior Design, Basic Department, Department of Ideology and Politics, and Department of Physical Education, as well as the two departments of International Cooperation and Exchange, and Continuing Education.
