Songyuan Vocational and Technical College was established in August with the approval of the provincial government in 2005. It was formed by the merger of the former Songyuan Branch of Jilin Normal University, Jilin Oilfield Workers' University, and Songyuan Rural Adult College. After six years of hard work, profound changes have taken place in the college. At present, the source of students is sufficient and stable, the employment channels are smooth, and various jobs are developing by leaps and bounds.
The college campus covers an area of 1.67 million square meters, with a building area of 180,000 square meters, and 120,000 square meters of teaching and administrative rooms. There are 37 on-campus laboratories and training rooms, and 71 off-campus practice and training bases. The college’s fixed assets have reached 500 million yuan, of which the total value of teaching and research equipment is 48.03 million yuan. The collection of books is 240,000 volumes, and there are more than 500 kinds of publications. All kinds of teaching, sports, boarding and lodging, leisure and other places are complete and advanced.
The school has Teacher Education College, Agricultural Engineering Department, Petroleum Engineering Department, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Department, Information Engineering Department, Economic Management Department, Chemical Medicine Department, Automotive Engineering Department, Construction Engineering Department, Basic Department, Culture, Sports Science and Technology Department, Secondary Technical Department, 14 departments including the Adult Education Development Center and the Department of Business Studies. There are 32 enrollment majors, 560 teachers and employees, of which 350 are full-time teachers, and there are more than 8,000 students. They undertake various adult trainings for more than 12,000 person-times each year.
The college has successively won the "Top 50 Employment in Higher Vocational Colleges in China", "Top 100 Moral Education and Scientific Research Schools in the Country", "Jilin Province Student Work Innovation Award", "Jilin Province School Health and Safety Advanced Collective", and "National Migrant Worker Training Demonstration" "Base", "Training Base for Rural Cadres in Jilin Province", "Red Flag League Branch of Jilin Province's May Fourth Movement", "Excellent Team of Social Practice Activities of "Three Going to the Country" in the Summer Vacation of Student Volunteers in Colleges and Technical Colleges in Jilin Province", "Jilin Province "Advanced Group of School Health and Safety", "Songyuan City's May Fourth Red Flag League Branch", "Songyuan City's Advanced Group to Welcome the Olympics" and other honorary titles. At the end of 2009, our institute successfully passed the national talent training ability assessment. In 2011, it passed the national college student ideological and political evaluation, and passed the provincial library special work evaluation with excellent results in the same year.
