Jilin Medical College was founded in 1952, formerly known as the Jilin Military Medical College of the Fourth Military Medical University of the Chinese People's Liberation Army. It has trained more than 30,000 medical personnel for the army and the local government and is known as the "cradle of soldiers in white". In August 2004, the school was handed over to Jilin Province by the army as a whole, and became a provincial public higher education institution. It is the only undergraduate college of western medicine set up independently in Jilin Province. Passed the qualification assessment of undergraduate teaching work by the Ministry of Education in 2013.

The school currently has 9,264 full-time students (including 119 international students). School services are oriented to primary health units, and strive to meet the needs of local economic and social development, and cultivate a large number of first-line applied talents in medical services, drug production, sales, and health management. In the past three years, the initial employment rate of graduates has remained above 82%. The school has a solid foundation in scientific research.
