Jiangxi Open University is directly under the Jiangxi People's Government. It is a new type of higher education school with the mission of promoting lifelong learning, supported by modern information technology, characterized by "Internet +", and supported by systematic education. The predecessor of the school was Jiangxi Radio and Television University founded in January 1979. On November 26, 2020, the People's Government of Jiangxi Province officially approved Jiangxi Radio and Television University to be renamed Jiangxi Open University.
As a new type of higher education institution, the school is composed of "university + system + platform".
(1) University
The school insists on being based in Jiangxi, facing the grassroots, serving the local area, and extensively develops continuing education for academic qualifications, non-academic continuing education and general higher education. Among them, continuing education for academic qualifications includes open education, adult college entrance examination education, online education, and adult technical secondary education (China Development Bank), mainly in the form of part-time education; academic qualifications cover technical secondary schools, junior colleges, and undergraduates. Non-academic continuing education includes senior education, community education, and skills training.
In 2003, with the approval of the Jiangxi Provincial People's Government, the Jiangxi Forest Industry Technical School was incorporated into Jiangxi Radio and Television University. On this basis, in 2004, the Jiangxi Provincial People's Government approved the establishment of Jiangxi Vocational College of Engineering to carry out general higher vocational education. In 2021, the People’s Armed Forces College of Nanchang University will be transferred to the school as a secondary college to carry out undergraduate and junior college general higher education and training for grassroots military cadres.
The university has approved 10 undergraduate majors, 18 junior college majors, and 26 higher vocational education majors approved by the university; 6 general undergraduate majors in humanity and martial arts and 4 junior majors; 15 undergraduate majors in open education of the Open University of China currently enrolled , 49 specialties.
In the 41 years since the school was founded, the province’s Open University has trained a total of 760,000 college graduates, making positive contributions to the economic and social development of Jiangxi.
The Provincial Open University currently has three campuses, among which the Qingshan Lake campus is located on Hongdu North Avenue, Nanchang City, focusing on administration, open education, and adult education; the Fuhe campus is located on Anshi Road and mainly carries out higher vocational education; the Qingyunpu campus is located in Nanchang Yingbin North Avenue of the city mainly carries out general higher education and training for national defense. There are 384 on-the-job faculty members, including 305 professional and technical personnel and 117 senior titles. At the same time, a number of part-time teachers have been hired from universities and enterprises in the province.
(Two) system
The province’s Open University system consists of 1 provincial TV university, 11 municipal TV universities and 116 county-level TV university workstations. The Provincial Open University mainly manages, guides and provides services for the city and county-level TV universities. Specifically, it includes: open education and adult education management of TV universities in the province, and public services of distance education.
There are 3176 faculty members in the TV university system in the province, including 2147 professional and technical personnel, accounting for 67.6% of the total in-service faculty and staff; 1038 senior titles, accounting for 48.35% of professional and technical personnel.
(3) Platform
Jiangxi Province Community Education Guidance Center and Jiangxi Province Distance Education Service Center settled in the school. The school is the national defense education base of Jiangxi Province, the first batch of educational informatization pilot colleges and universities of the Ministry of Education, has 1 computer application training center of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance, 1 key construction major (construction engineering technology) of the Ministry of Education's professional service industry. 4 vocational education skill training bases (e-commerce, numerical control technology, construction engineering and Internet of Things application technology). The school has established a social education college and a senior education college, mainly for community education and senior education for social personnel; established a learning society research institute, attracted a group of experts, and jointly carried out theoretical research on the construction of a learning society in our province; built a nation The Jiangxi branch of the Digital Learning Resource Center has built a number of characteristic curriculum resources; built a modern teaching platform integrating "Skynet, Earthnet, Human Internet", and independently developed the "Jiangxi Province Lifelong Learning System", which was included in the "Jiangxi Province's Top Ten Informatization Projects" is committed to serving the construction of a learning society in our province. All municipal power stations have also carried out extensive community education, education for the elderly, and skills training in accordance with local conditions.

The new model of integrated development of education, continuing education, community education, and senior education, strives to become the main platform for lifelong education in our province, the main platform for online education, the platform for flexible education, and the platform for foreign cooperation, and become an important force in serving lifelong learning for all people.
