The predecessor of Jiangxi Institute of Technology was the Xinyu Radio Training Course which was founded in October 1983. Jiangxi Yuzhou Institute of Electronic Industry was established in 1992. In 1997, it was listed as one of the first pilot institutions for the national diploma examination of higher education in Jiangxi Province. In 1998, it was renamed Jiangxi Yuzhou Institute of Electronics Industry. In 2001, approved by the People's Government of Jiangxi Province and filed by the Ministry of Education, Jiangxi Yuzhou Vocational College of Science and Technology was established and became a general higher vocational college. Approved by the Ministry of Education in 2014, it was upgraded to a general undergraduate college and renamed Jiangxi Institute of Technology.
