Nanchang Institute of Technology is a full-time applied undergraduate college with a focus on work, coordinated development of multiple disciplines, and outstanding ethnic education. The predecessor of the school was the private Ganjiang University founded in 1988 by a group of old comrades such as Fu Yutian, the representative of the Seventh National Congress of the Communist Party of China and the former secretary of the Jiangxi Provincial Party Committee. In 1998, the school was renamed Ganjiang Technical College. In 2003, the school was renamed Jiangxi Ganjiang Vocational and Technical College. In the same year, it was selected by the Ministry of Education as the "National Preparatory Education Base for Colleges and Universities". In April 2011, with the approval of the Ministry of Education and the People's Government of Jiangxi Province, Nanchang Institute of Technology was established on the basis of Jiangxi Ganjiang Vocational and Technical College and became an ordinary undergraduate college. In 2017, the school successfully passed the qualification assessment of undergraduate teaching work by the Ministry of Education.
The school is located in Honggutan New District, Nanchang City, Jiangxi Province. It covers an area of 1183 acres, with a total school building area of 560,000 square meters. The campus is dependent on mountains and rivers, with complete facilities and complete functions.
The school has 10 secondary colleges, including the School of New Energy Vehicles, the School of Business and Trade, the School of Wealth Management, the School of Artificial Intelligence, the School of Human Settlements, the School of Media Design, the School of Marxism, the School of Sports, and the School of Education, with 55 undergraduates Majors and 33 college majors, covering 7 disciplines including engineering, economics, management, literature, law, art and education.
The school currently has 24,000 students and more than 1,500 faculty members, including more than 1,100 full-time teachers. Among the full-time teachers, there are 368 teachers with senior professional titles, 822 teachers with doctoral and master's degrees, 6 teachers enjoying special allowance from the State Council, 4 second-level professors, 12 young and middle-aged academic leaders in provincial universities, and young and middle-aged teachers in provincial universities. There are 13 key teachers and 6 famous teachers in colleges and universities in the province.
The school’s existing teaching and research equipment is worth 127 million yuan, with a collection of 1.91 million paper books and 1.13 million electronic books. There are 19 platforms including Jiangxi Province Auto Parts Digital Manufacturing Engineering Laboratory, Jiangxi Province Intelligent Building Network Key Laboratory (Cultivation Base), Provincial Makerspace, and Nanchang DME Optoelectronic Engineering Application Research Key Laboratory. It has 1 provincial-level key discipline and 3 provincial-level comprehensive reform pilot majors. Since its promotion, it has completed more than 300 provincial and ministerial-level vertical projects (topics), published more than 3,000 papers (published monographs), and obtained more than 300 utility model patents.
School graduates are recognized by the society and employers for their dedication, solid foundation and outstanding skills. Since 2011, students have participated in various competitions and won more than 1,500 awards at or above the provincial level. The school has been awarded as an excellent grade school for the employment evaluation of ordinary colleges and universities in Jiangxi Province and an advanced unit for employment evaluation of ordinary colleges and universities in Jiangxi Province for 6 consecutive years.
The school is now one of the first batch of 1+X certificate system pilot institutions of the Ministry of Education, and the first batch of the Jiangxi Provincial People's Government to "transform and develop pilot institutions to application-oriented universities".
Ethnic education and talent training in schools have been widely recognized by the society. It has been awarded the "Model Group of National Unity and Progress" by the State Council, and the "Model School of National Unity and Progress of National Ethnic Unity and Progress" by the Central Propaganda Department, the Central United Front Work Department, and the National Civil Affairs Commission.
