The school was formed by the merger of two national demonstration colleges under the former Ministry of Machinery and the former Ministry of Electric Power-the former Nanjing Mechanical College and the former Nanjing Electric Power College in 2000. In 2001, it was subordinate to Incorporated into the former Nanjing Industrial School of the former Ministry of Nuclear Industry.
