History
The predecessor of China Pharmaceutical University was the National Pharmaceutical College (four-year system). It was founded in 1936 and was the first higher pharmacy school founded by the state in Chinese history. In the early days of the school, the Anti-Japanese War broke out. The school moved to Hankou for the first time, and then relocated to Chongqing to study academics and nurture Yinghua. Moved back to Nanjing in 1946. In 1952, the Department of Pharmacy of Qilu University and the Department of Pharmacy of Soochow University were merged into the school and the East China School of Pharmacy was established. In 1955, it began to recruit graduate students. In 1956, it was renamed Nanjing College of Pharmacy. In 1986, it merged with the Nanjing College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, which was under construction, to form China Pharmaceutical University. In 1996, it entered the ranks of the top 100 universities in the national "211 Project". In 2000, the school was transferred to the Ministry of Education as a whole by the State Drug Administration. In 2001, Jiangsu Pharmaceutical School was merged into the school. In September 2017, it ranked among the national "double first-class" construction universities (first-class disciplines).

The school has two campuses, Xuanwumen and Jiangning, covering an area of nearly 2,200 acres. The building area is nearly 560,000 square meters, including 279,800 square meters of teaching and research administrative buildings, 34,000 square meters of library area, 203,000 square meters of student dormitories, and 81,000 square meters of sports venues. The library has more than 1.55 million books.

Subject Major
In the previous national discipline evaluations organized by the Ministry of Education's Degree and Graduate Education Development Center, the pharmacy and Chinese pharmacy disciplines have always been ranked among the top. In the fourth round of subject evaluation, the pharmacy subject ranked first. There are 2 first-level doctoral programs of pharmacy and Chinese pharmacy, 24 second-level doctoral programs; 6 first-level master programs and 37 second-level master programs. There are 2 post-doctoral mobile stations in pharmacy and Chinese pharmacy, which can accept post-doctoral personnel in 23 majors. There are 5 professional master degree programs, including Master of Pharmacy, Master of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Master of Engineering (in the field of pharmaceutical engineering), Master of Applied Statistics, and Master of Public Administration. The first-level discipline of pharmacy is a national first-level key discipline. The six second-level disciplines covered by medicinal chemistry, pharmacy, pharmacognosy, pharmacoanalysis, microbiology and biochemical pharmacy, and pharmacology are all national key disciplines; The discipline is a national first-level key discipline cultivation and construction point in Jiangsu Province, of which the second-level discipline of Chinese Medicine Chemistry is a key discipline of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine; the discipline of integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine is a first-level key discipline of Jiangsu Province. The three disciplines of pharmacy, Chinese pharmacy, pharmaceutical biotechnology and biopharmaceuticals have been approved and constructed by the "Jiangsu University Superior Discipline Construction Project". The disciplines of chemistry and business management are the key (cultivation) disciplines of the "13th Five-Year Plan" of Jiangsu Province, and the disciplines of environmental science and engineering are the key construction disciplines of the "Thirteenth Five-Year Plan" of Jiangsu Province.
In 2017, our school's ESI rankings for the three disciplines of pharmacology and toxicology, chemistry, and clinical medicine entered the world's top 1%. The latest data shows that our school's pharmacology and toxicology discipline ranks among the top 1‰ in the world, marking its entry into the ranks of the international advanced level. In the latest natural index rankings, our school ranks 44th among mainland universities. In the 2017 ARWU University Academic Rankings released by Shanghai Ruanke, the school's pharmacy subject ranks 51-75 in the world. In the 2017 World University Rankings (CWUR) subject rankings, our school's medicinal chemistry subject ranks third in the world. In the 2017USNews pharmacology and toxicology professional discipline rankings, our school ranks 40th in the world. In the National Taiwan University World University Rankings, our school ranks 31st in the world in pharmacology and toxicology.
