Soochow University is located in Suzhou, a famous historical and cultural city known as "paradise on earth". It is a key university in the national "211 Project" and the first batch of universities selected in the "2011 Plan". It is a key comprehensive university in Jiangsu Province, jointly established with the People's Government of Jiangsu Province. The predecessor of Soochow University was Soochow University (Soochow University, founded in 1900), which pioneered Western-style education and blended the essence of Chinese and Western cultures. It was the first university in China to be organized with a modern university discipline system. In the history of higher education in China, Soochow University was the first to develop professional education in law (English, American, and French), to develop postgraduate education and award a master's degree.
