Mingli Tongzhou Normal School, founded by Zhang Jian in 1902, is one of the three sources of normal education in China. Turned to public in 1952, renamed Jiangsu Nantong Normal School the following year, merged with Jiangsu Nantong Women's Normal School founded in 1905 in 1958, and merged with Jiangsu Haimen Normal School, which started in 1906, to form Nantong Higher Education in April 2005. The normal school was upgraded to Nantong Teachers College with the approval of Jiangsu Provincial People's Government in January 2014. In September of the same year, it merged with Rugao Higher Normal School founded in 1902.
The school has been established for more than 110 years, with a rich cultural heritage and outstanding talents. It has trained more than 80,000 graduates and enjoys the reputation of "red teacher" and "teacher's cradle". The school consists of Nantong campus, Rugao campus, and development zone campus. The Nantong campus is located in the Haohe Scenic Area (National Level 5A).
