Suzhou Vocational and Technical College of Arts and Crafts

Suzhou Vocational and Technical College of Arts and Crafts is the first higher vocational college of art and design established in my country. In 1999, Suzhou Arts and Crafts School and Suzhou Light Industry Workers University jointly established Suzhou Arts and Crafts Vocational and Technical College, which became the first independent higher vocational college of art and design in my country. In 2006, the school obtained excellent results in the evaluation of the talent training level of higher vocational colleges. In 2007, it became the first batch of "Jiangsu Province Demonstrative Higher Vocational Colleges". In 2010, it was identified as a "National Demonstrative Higher Vocational College Construction Plan" project construction college. In 2014, the school's national backbone college construction project won the "excellent" level in the acceptance of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance. In 2018, it was awarded the high-level vocational college construction unit of Jiangsu Province. In 2019, the school was successfully selected as a high-level vocational school with Chinese characteristics and a professional construction plan construction unit. The school has been rated as one of the “Top 50 Educational Achievements”, “Top 50 Contributions to the Society”, “Top 50 International Influence”, “Top 50 Student Comprehensive Satisfaction”, etc., ranking among the “Wu Shulian 2019 China Higher Vocational High School”. Ranked No. 1 in the category of specialized culture and art.



The school is located on the shore of the stone lake and the foothills of the upper mountain in the ancient Wushan area. The long history and the heavy culture have created a good atmosphere for the growth of students. The school campus covers an area of 561 acres, with a construction area of nearly 200,000 square meters, more than 400 faculty members, and more than 5,000 students. There are seven secondary schools, namely the School of Handcraft Art, the School of Fine Arts, the School of Visual Communication, the School of Environmental Art, the School of Fashion Design, the School of Industrial Design, and the School of Digital Art. There are 54 majors in 25 majors in modern art design and traditional arts and crafts series. The small specialization direction has formed a professional pattern that combines multiple disciplines, and pays equal attention to traditional arts and crafts majors and modern art and design majors.



The school has a national key construction vocational teacher training base for the Ministry of Education, a training base for non-genetic inheritors of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and a national women's handicraft training demonstration base. In addition, there are the inheritance base of Chinese excellent traditional culture of the Ministry of Education, the continuing education base of Jiangsu Province Arts and Crafts specialists, and the Suzhou Taohuawu Woodcut New Year Painting Club (Research Institute), etc. The school is the vice chairman unit of the Art Design Professional Teaching Guidance Committee of Vocational Colleges of the Ministry of Education, and the director unit of the Graphic Vision Specialty Committee of the Art Design Professional Teaching Guidance Committee of Vocational Colleges of the Ministry of Education.



The school’s training center has a building area of 45,800 square meters and has 97 studios, including 4 national-level training bases, 8 provincial-level training bases, and 1 provincial-level experimental teaching demonstration center.



Centering on the goal of cultivating high-quality technical skill-based art design talents with "double ethics and skill, and dexterity", the school continuously deepens the reform of education and teaching, builds a service-oriented professional teaching system, and deepens the innovative practice of the "studio system" talent training model. Actively serve the local modern service industry and cultural and creative industries. Taking cooperative employment as the guidance, cooperative education as the model, and cooperative development as the goal, we will improve the new mechanism of the integration of production, education and education in the collaborative innovation of school, government, operation and enterprise. Based on tradition and modernity, we are committed to the protection and inheritance of Suzhou's traditional culture and folk crafts, and promote the inheritance and development of the intangible cultural heritage Suzhou Taohuawu woodcut New Year paintings to a new stage. Carrying the cultural mission and embodying responsibility. Through platforms such as the "Innovation Experimental Zone for the Inheritance of Arts and Crafts", the exploration, inheritance and research and development of Taohuawu woodcut New Year pictures, Su embroidery, and Leishan Miao intangible heritage are concentrated. The school was named the first batch of "Jiangsu Province Intangible Cultural Heritage Research Bases"; presided over the construction of the "Hundred Workers Record: Non-genetic Inheritance and Innovation of Chinese Arts and Crafts" National Vocational Education Professional Teaching Resource Database. At present, there are 141 school-enterprise cooperation units and 24 school-resident enterprises in the school.



While actively absorbing advanced western culture, the school spreads Chinese culture through exchanges and cooperation with foreign art and design colleges and cultural academic institutions, and exports traditional crafts and art design education paradigms. The school has the "Sino-French Jiangsu Art Design Education Research Center" jointly established by the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education and the Paris Education Bureau of France, and the "Sino-British Suzhou Art Design Education Innovation Center" jointly established by the school and the University of Southampton in the United Kingdom. There are four workstations in France, the Netherlands, Austria, and the United Kingdom. Currently, it has established cooperative relations with 78 universities in 28 countries including France, Britain, Japan, Canada, the United States, and the Netherlands. Implement the overseas tour exhibition project of Chinese craftsmanship and the overseas tour exhibition project of outstanding works of teachers and students of the school, and train about 200 long-term and short-term international students every year.



The school has achieved outstanding results in talent training, and the enrollment and employment situation is booming. It recruits students from 30 provinces and cities across the country, with an annual enrollment of about 1,800 people. The employment rate of graduates has continuously maintained above 98%, the satisfaction rate of enterprises has reached 98%, and a large number of graduates have started their own businesses. The school has won many honors such as the "Cradle Award for Highly Skilled Talents", "Advanced School for International Cooperation and Exchange of Education in Jiangsu Province", "Advanced Collective of Graduate Employment Work in Jiangsu Province", and "Outstanding Contribution Award for High-Skilled Talent Training in Suzhou" awarded by the Jiangsu Provincial Government.
