Nanjing Institute of Physical Education was founded in 1956. It was formed by the merger of Nanjing Sports School, Jiangsu Normal University Sports Specialty Course, and Jiangsu Sports Cadre Training Course. It is the only independent sports college in Jiangsu Province and an important provincial-level athletics. The sports training base is a key provincial university jointly managed by the Jiangsu Provincial Sports Bureau and the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education. It is known as the "cradle of world champions."
