Jiangsu Second Normal University

Jiangsu Second Normal University is a provincial ordinary undergraduate school featuring teacher education and focusing on cultivating elementary and pre-school teachers. The school's predecessor was the Jiangsu Institute of Education founded in 1952. It was one of the 17 public undergraduate schools established earlier in Jiangsu Province in the early days of the founding of the People's Republic of China. In 1959, Jiangsu College of Education took the lead in holding general undergraduate education among provincial education colleges in the country. During the "Cultural Revolution", the school was once closed, and resumed in 1978 and began to recruit regular junior college students. Since 1996, it resumed recruiting regular undergraduate students. Since 2003, it has recruited five-year regular college transfer students. In 2013, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, the school was transformed from a provincial adult undergraduate school to a provincial general undergraduate school and renamed Jiangsu Second Normal University. For more than 60 years, the school has always adhered to the orientation of serving Jiangsu basic education, and has gradually formed the school-running characteristics of "pre-service integration, education and scientific research leadership, and clear practice orientation".


In recent years, the school has been adhering to the school motto of "Respect and Dedication, Seeking Truth and Innovation" and the teacher spirit of "Learning to be a teacher, behaving as a world-class model". In accordance with the mission and objectives determined by the school's 13th Five-Year Plan, the school has firmly established innovation, connotation, characteristics, and openness. , Share the five development concepts, continuously improve the school governance system, raise the level of governance, focus on building a modern university system that meets the reality of the school, and steadily move toward the goal of building a "high-level, distinctive and new-type normal college".


   The school has 3 campuses, Caochangmen, Pukou, and Xiaohang, covering an area of 524.32 acres, and another Lishui campus covering an area of 1201 acres is under construction. The Lishui campus construction project has been included in the major projects of Jiangsu Province as the only education project for two consecutive years. It is expected to be completed and put into use in 2018.


   The school has 14 teaching faculties, 26 undergraduate majors, and 2 joint masters of education majors, covering major disciplines such as pedagogy, literature, science, management, and art. There are 9,319 full-time students at school, and full-time teachers account for 48.64% of middle- and senior-level teachers; teachers with a doctoral degree or above account for 36.5%.


  The school has accumulated long-term teaching and scientific research for undergraduate teacher education. There are 1 national and provincial-level outstanding teacher training plan reform projects, 1 provincial-level brand major, 3 key majors, 6 characteristic majors, 9 quality courses, 3 provincial-level key construction disciplines, and 1 innovation team There are 1 key construction laboratory, 3 experimental teaching and practical education demonstration centers. In recent years, it has won 8 provincial excellent teaching achievement awards. From 2012 to 2016, teachers and researchers published 1503 papers in journals above the provincial level, including 123 papers in SCI/EI journals, 147 papers in authoritative and CSSCI journals, and 317 papers in other core journals; published works (textbooks) 104 units.


   The school is rich in educational resources. It is a national key teacher training base for primary and secondary schools, a training base for key primary and secondary school principals, a flight training base for primary and secondary school principals of the Ministry of Education, and the only experimental base for teacher education reform in the province.


The Jiangsu Institute of Educational Modernization, organized and constructed by the school, has been identified as a provincial-level key think tank. The Jiangsu Teacher Training Center, Education Administrative Cadre Training Center, and Teacher Qualification Guidance Center are all school-mounted institutions, forming basic education-oriented and functional Complete teacher education management service system.


The school has extensive international exchanges and cooperation. It has established cooperative relationships with more than 20 universities and research institutes in 11 countries and regions in the United States, Europe, Asia, Africa, and Oceania.    In 2002, the People's Government of Jiangsu Province decided to establish the Jiangsu Academy of Educational Science on the basis of schools, with 8 teaching and research institutions including the Education Development Research Center and the Teaching and Research Office of Jiangsu Primary and Secondary Schools. Jiangsu Second Normal University and Jiangsu Academy of Educational Sciences implement the operating mechanism of "two brands, one team". For more than 10 years, the Provincial Academy of Educational Sciences has formed a large number of major research results in the fields of basic education, higher education, vocational education, early childhood education, and elementary and middle school teaching research.


The school has successively won many commendations such as the National Advanced Unit for School Cultural Construction Innovation, Jiangsu Civilized Unit, Jiangsu Civilized School, Harmonious Campus of Jiangsu Colleges and Universities, and Advanced Collective for Employment of College Graduates in Jiangsu Province, and has trained more than 200,000 outstanding teachers. Talents have provided a large number of primary and middle school teaching backbones, subject leaders, and education administrative cadres for basic education, and are hailed as "the cradle of Jiangsu's basic education teachers and principals" by all walks of life.
