The predecessor of the college was Nanjing Forestry College established in 1953. In September 1994, it was transformed into Nanjing People's Police College of the Ministry of Forestry. In March 2000, it was upgraded to Nanjing Forest Police College. In March 2010, it was upgraded to Nanjing Forest Police College. In 2017, it was included in the Jiangsu Province 2017-2023 master's degree awarding project construction unit. Currently, it has cooperated with Beijing Forestry University and Nanjing University of Information Technology to carry out postgraduate training work.
The college occupies a total area of 1113 acres, including two campuses in Nanjing Xianlin and Huayuan Road. The main campus of Xianlin in Nanjing Xianlin University Town undertakes full-time undergraduate education, with a total construction area of more than 200,000 square meters; total fixed assets of 790 million Yuan. The college currently has nearly 6000 full-time undergraduate students. The college actively carries out technical services and police training, and has achieved remarkable results in serving the actual needs of public security. Annually handle more than 2500 judicial appraisals and inspect more than 10,000 pieces of various inspection materials, providing technical support for a large number of law enforcement activities of forest public security, customs anti-smuggling, food, medicine and environmental protection departments, and accumulatively providing criminal law enforcement, public security law enforcement, and forestry administration for the grassroots. There are more than 10,000 technical consultations in law enforcement and other aspects, providing electronic data inspection, data analysis, public opinion monitoring, system research and development, business training and other services for local public, procuratorate, and law departments, and providing powerful technical support for the detection of major and important cases supervised by the Ministry of Public Security. A total of more than 20,000 police technical and tactical trainings have been carried out for the police in public security organs across the country. The college has completed more than 5,800 training tasks for various police types such as forest police, customs anti-smuggling, air police system, and Changhang Public Security each year, forming a collaborative innovation mechanism for industry-university-research and warfare integration.
