Jiangsu Normal University is a university jointly established by the People's Government of Jiangsu Province and the Ministry of Education, and is a high-level university in Jiangsu. The predecessor of the school was the Cultural Accelerated School for Demobilized Cadres of the Southern Jiangsu Military Region, founded in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province in 1952. In 1956, the school was temporarily named "Jiangsu Province Middle School Teacher Training Class" (Wuxi Teachers College Preparatory Office), and it was officially included in the enrollment of ordinary higher education. In 1957, Jiangsu Teachers Technical College was established. The school moved north to Xuzhou in 1958, and merged with Xuzhou Teachers College in 1959 to establish Xuzhou Teachers College. From then on, the school took root in northern Jiangsu, worked hard and developed gradually. In 1979, it began to recruit graduate students, and in 1981 it became the first batch of master's degree-granting units in the country. In 1996 the school was renamed Xuzhou Normal University. In 1999, the Xuzhou Industrial School under the former Ministry of Coal Industry was merged. In 2011, the school was renamed Jiangsu Normal University.
