Nanjing Forestry University is located at the foot of the scenic Zijin Mountain and the rippling Xuanwu Lake. It is a provincial key university jointly built by the central and local governments. In 2017, it was selected as a national "double first-class" construction university list. The predecessor of the school was the Forestry Department of Central University (founded in 1902) and the Forestry Department of Jinling University (founded in 1910). The Nanjing Forestry College, which was merged and formed in 1952, was one of the only three higher forestry colleges in the country at that time. In 1955, the Forestry Department of Huazhong Agricultural College (a merger of Wuhan University, Nanchang University and Hubei Agricultural College) was merged.
