Hunan Institute of Applied Technology is a full-time undergraduate college approved by the Ministry of Education. The school was founded in 1994 and was then called Changde Computer Technology School; in 1998, it became a pilot institution for higher education diplomas and was renamed Changde Computer Science University; in 2004, it was upgraded to a national college enrolled and renamed Hunan Tongde Vocational College. ; In 2014, it was upgraded to a national undergraduate college with unified enrollment and renamed as Hunan Institute of Applied Technology.


The school has two campuses, east and west, with a planned total area of 2,145 mu. At present, the campus covers an area of 1,200 acres with a total construction area of 363,400 square meters, including 186,400 square meters of teaching and administrative buildings, more than 140,000 square meters of student dormitories, and 1.232 million paper books and 270,000 e-books. The whole school uses more than 3000 computers for teaching and experimental training, and broadband network and WIFI cover the whole school.


The school has 570 full-time teachers, of which 354 have a master's degree or above, accounting for 62.11%; 182 have senior professional titles, accounting for 31.93%. There are 12,651 full-time students, including 9,985 undergraduate students. The school has agricultural and forestry science and technology, mechanical and electrical engineering, economic management, design art, information engineering, foreign language college, cultural media college, public course department, Marxism college, and innovation and entrepreneurship employment college. It has gardens, aquaculture, mechanical design and manufacturing, and It has 21 undergraduate majors including automation and Internet of Things engineering, and 13 junior majors including digital media art design and business English.


Since its promotion in 2014, the school has adhered to the collaboration of internal and external cooperation to build a practical teaching platform, deeply promoted the deep integration of production and education, and the school-enterprise collaborative education mechanism. In cooperation with enterprises, a total of 183 off-campus internship training bases were built, 13 engineering practice bases were built, three innovation and entrepreneurship education centers and two school-enterprise cooperation innovation and entrepreneurship bases were built, and a total of 13,290 students were admitted to the base for internship training; strengthened Teaching resources, especially the construction of experimental and training conditions in the school, scientifically integrate the resources in the school, built 186 experimental (training) rooms in the school, 47 innovation and entrepreneurship studios, 1 master studio, and 6 incubation bases for entrepreneurship inside and outside the school. At present, the school is mainly based on undergraduate education, and in terms of disciplines and professional settings, it has determined the construction of a discipline and professional system with the characteristics of agriculture, engineering and management as the main body, and the coordinated development of agriculture, engineering, management, economics, culture, and arts. . New progress has been made in the construction of disciplines and majors. The discipline "Forestry" has been approved as a provincial-level dual-class applied specialty discipline, and five disciplines including aquaculture, design, mechanical design and manufacturing and automation, administrative management and computer application technology are listed as school-level Key construction disciplines; English, Chinese language and literature, Marxist theory and other three disciplines are listed as the "14th Five-Year Plan" school-level key cultivation disciplines. "Landscape" major was approved as a pilot program for comprehensive reform during the 13th Five-Year Plan of Hunan Province; 5 majors including "Landscaping", "Aquaculture", "Administrative Management", "Mechanical Design and Manufacturing and Automation" and "Environmental Design" were approved as school-level projects First-class professional construction point. Since the establishment of the school, the employment rate of graduates has consistently ranked among the best in similar institutions.
