The predecessor of Yiyang Medical College was Yiyang Health School, founded in 1950, and was upgraded in 2007 with the approval of the Ministry of Education. The school is a national standardized training base for general practitioners, a national oral health education base, and a training base for schistosomiasis prevention and treatment in Hunan Province; it is a cooperative school for nursing talent training in Xiangya Hospital of Central South University, Shanghai Yifeng Pharmacy, Hunan Qianjin Pharmacy, Hunan Huairen Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. and Changsha Lanwei Medical Laboratory Co., Ltd. are cooperating school units. In 2015, he was elected as the "Most Beautiful University in Hunan" in the first WeChat poll.
The school is located in Yiyang, a famous historical and cultural city in the Dongting Lake Eco-economic Circle. It is close to 319 National Highway, Chang-Zhang Expressway, Luo-Zhan Railway and Huanghua Airport. It is only 70 kilometers away from the provincial capital of Changsha. The transportation is very convenient. At present, the school covers an area of 501.6 acres, a building area of 150,000 square meters, fixed assets of 350 million yuan, a total value of 35 million yuan in teaching equipment, and a collection of more than 35 books. Mega campus network and modern experimental training centers such as medical morphology laboratory, medical function laboratory, nursing (midwifery) training center, clinical medicine (schistosomiasis) training center, and stomatology training center. Nursing majors are provincial-level specialty majors, and stomatology and pharmacy majors are central financial support majors.
There are 11 party-mass administrative agencies, 7 teaching departments, and 3 auxiliary teaching agencies in the school. There are 9 majors in clinical medicine, stomatology, pharmacy, nursing, midwifery, medical examination technology, rehabilitation treatment technology, traditional Chinese medicine, medical imaging technology, etc. There are more than 10,000 students at all levels and types. The school has more than 700 faculty and staff, more than 370 in the main school, 141 with senior professional titles, 1 national May 1st Labor Medal winner, 1 national outstanding teacher, 1 Hunan Province "121" talent pool expert , 13 visiting scholars, 10 provincial-level young backbone teachers, 7 provincial-level classroom competition award-winning teachers, 1 winner of the first Zhou Gucheng Education Award in Yiyang City, and 1 moral model in Yiyang City.
In the past five years, the school has completed 16 research results, including 8 provincial-level projects; 118 provincial and departmental-level projects; 4 projects for Hunan Provincial Educational Science Planning and 5 Municipal Science and Technology Progress Awards; 6 provincial-level teaching achievement awards ; Provincial and national journals have published 435 papers, including 7 SCI and EI, 20 authoritative journals; 146 textbooks, including 48 national planning textbooks.
The school has 1 directly affiliated comprehensive hospital and 1 affiliated dental hospital, with 600 beds. It has 2 non-directly affiliated hospitals, 6 teaching hospitals and more than 80 off-campus practice bases.
In recent years, more than 600 graduates of the school have been admitted to Central South University, Nanhua University, Hunan University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Xiangnan College for further studies. The student representative team won three individual first prizes and group third prizes in the "Chinese Medicine Society Cup" testing skills competition of national health vocational colleges. In 2014, they participated in the National Higher Vocational College organized by the Ministry of Education. In the evaluation of the level of talent training in colleges and universities, the school obtained a "qualified" score. School graduates are well received by employers. The internship and employment bases are located in hospitals in Hunan, Beijing, Shanghai, Guangdong, Guangxi, Jiangsu, Fujian, Sichuan, Hainan and PLA military regions. The employment rate of graduates has stabilized above 95%.
